High school and College are different learning stages,they have different curriculum requirements,different teaching goals,different publishers and compilers,which may lead to cohesion problem.This thesis applies the questionnaire survey method and Delphi method to carry out empirical research on the readability of teaching materials,takes Krashen’s second language acquisition theory and Merrienberg’s 4C/ID design as the theoretical basis,and takes Yilin Edition of High School English and Contemporary College English as objectives,focusing on the readability connection in a broad sense between high school English textbooks and College English textbooks.The research questions mainly include: Firstly,connotation of English textbook readability evaluation index system.In a broad sense,English textbook readability evaluation includes but is not limited to the comprehensive evaluation of the text.The study of textbook readability should include curriculum standard,compilation concept,text,new vocabulary,grammar,exercise,auxiliary textbook,etc.into the evaluation system,so as to establish a universal evaluation index system of English textbook readability.Secondly,a case study on the readability connection between Yilin Edition of High School English and Contemporary College English.The readability evaluation index system of English teaching materials designed by the research adopts the methods of comparative ranking and weight determination to set the index weights of each level.On this basis,it adopts a variety of scoring methods such as direct scoring,raw data scoring and different types of assignment to obtain the readability data of each level and calculate the total score after standardization.The results of textbook text data analysis are consistent with the questionnaire survey results.Thirdly,the rationality and extensibility of the evaluation index system.The evaluation index system can be applied to the horizontal comparative study of different versions of English textbooks at the same learning stage,as well as the cross stage vertical cohesion study.Based on the connection problems found between the readability of high school and college English textbooks,this study puts forward suggestions on the management,research,evaluation,compilation,revision and use of high school and college English textbooks,and puts forward ideas on the areas that need to be deepened and improved in the next step.
