| In recent years,with the improvement of English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)in terms of students’ vocabulary learning,how to effectively teach vocabulary has become an issue of concern to English teachers.In the present English vocabulary teaching,the lexical approach has been paid more and more attention.It emphasizes that language is mainly composed of lexical chunks which are also context-dependent.As a result,the English vocabulary is taught in certain contexts,which is good for students to learn the meaning and usage of vocabulary.As an English teacher,the author wanted to apply the lexical approach to English vocabulary teaching to improve the students’ efficiency of English vocabulary learning and their interests in English learning.This study took 38 students from Class 8,Grade 9 of Guiyang Huafu Junior High School as the research participants,it mainly focused on three questions:(1)What aspect does vocabulary teaching by English lexical chunks improve in efficiency for Grade 9 students’ English learning in this action research?(2)What change do the Grade 9 students have for their interest in learning English by using lexical chunks?(3)In what way does the teaching vocabulary by lexical approach facilitate the students’ English vocabulary learning in this action research? The author took action research,and taught relevant English vocabulary which was given in a certain text under one of the themes in each phase of action research.At the same time,my teaching plan for every lesson was designed and carried out by following the activity approach in English learning.In this study,questionnaires,interviews,classroom observations and tests were used to collect,analyze and summarize the data,and the following research results were obtained: Firstly,the students were enabled to improve their vocabulary memorization,identify and understand the lexical chunks in reading,and also make proper use of them in skill practice.Secondly,applying lexical approach to English vocabulary teaching has made the students more interested in English vocabulary learning and made them become active in learning.Thirdly,the teaching design following the activity approach in English learning can improve the class participation,reduce the learning difficulty for the students with weak English learning ability and improve their interest in English learning. |
