In 2021,the National Vocational Education Conference was held in Beijing, which creatively putting forward the concept and strategy of building a skill-based society, indicating a new development path for China’s vocational education career. To achieve the educational objectives of a manufacturing power and a scientific and technological power, the modern education system must be improved, and a group of exceptional talents with an innovative spirit and practical ability must be cultivated. However, due to a lack of quality vocational education supply,an imbalance in supply and demand between schools and businesses, and a lack of self-ability among higher vocational students, higher vocational students face issues such as a lack of employment preparation,a lack of career awareness,a lack of self-confidence,and so on.Higher vocational students have more challenges in the hiring process than college students.Exploring the topic of career futures inventory may provide career recommendations for higher vocational students and point out the route for future career growth, which is vital for improving higher vocational students’employment rate. The Career Futures Inventory Scale(CFIS),which comprises of 28self-assessment items, has been extensively used abroad to assess individuals’future career attitudes. The scale’s reliability, however, has not been verified because it is mostly translated back into Chinese. As a result, the Chinese version of the Career Futures Inventory Scale was revised and used in this research. The first study looked at how the Career Futures Inventory Scale performed as a gauge in a group of senior pupils. In Study2,920 vocational students were given questionnaires to investigate the horizontal relationship between personal growth initiative, future work self salience, and career futures inventory,as well as the significance of future work self salience as a horizontal mediating factor.A longitudinal follow-up survey was conducted on 706 senior vocational students in Study 3 to investigate the longitudinal relationship between personal growth initiative, future work self salience, and career futures inventory,as well as the longitudinal mediating effect of future work self salience. The following are the key research findings:Study 1:Through translation, back translation, and societal adaptation,a Chinese variant of the Career Futures Inventory Scale was created.According to the CTT findings, the revised Chinese form of the Career Futures Inventory Scale has 26 items, including 5 dimensions(career agency, occupational awareness, support, work–life balance, negative career outlook).Validation factor analysis revealed that the data fit was within permissible limits(x~2=530.102,df=289,CFI=0.968,TLI=0.964,RMSEA=0.038,SRMR=0.028).The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient,split-half reliability, and retest reliability of the five dimensions varied from 0.74to 0.92,according to reliability analysis. The validity analysis of the validity scales’correlational validity revealed that all five dimensions were significantly associated with career decision difficulties and career adaptability;the test of measurement equivalence across gender revealed no gender differences in the scale.Rasch analysis revealed that all five sub-dimensional first component residual eigenvalues were less than 2,indicating unidimensionality. The 5-point scoring method is reasonable, according to the rating scale analysis;the fit indices of the 26 items range from 0.79 to 1.32,with point correlation values greater than 0.40,which is within the ideal range, indicating that the internal consistency of the items in the five sub-dimensions is high. The item reliability of 26 items was higher than 0.90,item segmentation index was higher than 3,subject reliability was higher than 0.80,subject segmentation index was 2,and there was no difference in gender DIF.All of which met the minimum criteria of the Rasch model, indicating that the Chinese version of the Career Ambition Scale can accurately distinguish the differences in the potential trait levels of the subjects. It is demonstrated that the Chinese version of the Career Futures Inventory Scale can accurately differentiate differences in the individuals’prospective trait levels. The results show that the Chinese version of the Career Futures Inventory Scale has good test quality and cross-cultural stability, and that it may be be utilized as a reliable measurement tool in future application research.Study 2:There is a significant positive correlation between personal growth initiative, future work self salience and career futures inventory.Personal growth initiative is a significant positive predictor of career futures inventory.Future work self salience plays a mediating role in the relationship between personal growth initiative and career futures inventory of higher vocational students, and the mediating effect accounts for 27.27%of the total effect.Study 3:The results of the cross-lagged CLPM analysis with fixed effects indicated that personal growth initiative at the former time point significantly predicted future work self salience at the later time point.Future work self salience at the previous point in time significantly predicted career futures inventory at the later point in time. The results indicate that the future work self salience plays a longitudinal mediating role in the relationship between personal growth initiative and career futures inventory of higher vocational students, and the intermediate effect is 63.89%.To summarize, the overall quality of the career futures inventory scale in the Chinese backdrop is satisfactory, and it may be utilized as a Chinese version of the measuring tool for higher vocational students’future job perception.Future job self-salience has an immediate and long-term mediation effect on the relationship between higher vocational students’personal growth initiative and career futures inventory.
