Inverse-morpheme Words Pairs(hereinafter referred to IWP),the most confusing and difficult for foreign Chinese learners(hereinafter referred to FCL)to identify,are composed of two identical morphemes with an opposite morpheme order and the same morphemes and similar word forms make it easy for FCL to make mistakes when learning IWP.The foreign-oriented Chinese-English dictionaries(hereinafter referred to as FOCED),as an important learning tool for foreign learners in the process of learning Chinese,copy the internal-oriented Chinese dictionaries in presenting the semantic information of the IWP,without taking into account the word formation characteristics and cognitive factors of the IWP so failing to provide sufficient pragmatic information,so that the presentation of semantic information of the previous FOCED has some shortcomings.Based on the cognitive lexicography approach,this thesis takes IWP as the object,selects Global Chinese Interlanguage Corpus and HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus as the sources of the corpus,analyses the factors for the errors of FCL in learning IWP,and at the same time,the cognitive rationale of Inverse-morpheme Words Pair is analyzed with the help of the Conceptual Blending Theory,and a cognitive-semantic interpretation model for FCL is constructed based on the advantages of the semantic presentation of existing FOCEDs.Firstly,62 pairs are selected from the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education(GF0025-2021),and they are classified into two categories: isomorphic and heterogeneous IWP,based on the similarities and differences in the compound structure of forward words and reverse order words,after the sorting in Global Chinese Interlanguage Corpus and HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus.Meanwhile,the analysis of the error corpus collected from Chinese learners of different countries reveals that the main factors for foreign Chinese learners’ errors in learning IWP are that they are influenced by the negative migration and overgeneralization of their native language,and the differences in word order,word-structure and lexicality are easily ignored,and most importantly,due to the influence of semantic priming and inverse-order priming in the cognitive process,the semantic relationship between morphemes and morphemes,the semantic relationship between morphemes and words,and the semantic relationship between the forward words and inverse-order words in the construction process of IWP can be easily confused.Secondly,taking into account these,this thesis takes“fùdān负担—dān fù担负”and“yǎn hónɡ眼红—hónɡyǎn红眼”as the examples,and analyses the cognitive mechanism of IWP with the help of Conceptual Blending Theory and finds that the mechanisms of metonymy and metaphor have made significant influence on recognition of IWP,whose recognition information covered by the IWP should be activated with the corresponding background knowledge of Chinese cultural iconography.Moreover,the structure of IWP,the order of morphemes in the input space,and the order of acquisition of the forward words and reverse order words will affect acquisition of IWP.Also,this thesis examines whether the semantic presentation of the IWP represented by“fùdān负担—dān fù担负”and“yǎn hónɡ眼红—hónɡyǎn红眼”in New Century ChineseEnglish Dictionary(Second Edition),A Chinese-English Dictionary(Third Edition)and The Chinese-English Dictionary(Third Edition)can solve the difficulties of FCL.The results show that the following problems exist in the FOCEDs:the content and structure of the interpretative information items have different degrees of specificity,and the scopes of the meanings of the lexical entries and the corresponding words are not equal,and there is a lack of interpretative representation of the differences in cultural background and language habits,as well as there are differences in the order of the corresponding words and in the separation of the meanings.All of these have a direct impact on the quality of the definition of IWP,which in turn affects the correctness of FCL in the process of learning of them.Based on the preliminary findings,this thesis attempts to integrate them from a cognitive perspective based on the needs of dictionary users and construct a multidimensional defining model that helps semantic cognition.The principles of definition in a FOCED are proposed and explained,namely the principle of countryspecific practicality,the lexical chunks,the multidimensionality and the holism in definition.Based on these four principles,a collostruction-based multidimensional defining model is then constructed,in which the roles of the event participants are extracted with the help of the“Word Sketch”function in the“Sketch Engine”,and the norms and exploitations patterns of“fùdān负担—dān fù担负”and“yǎn hónɡ眼红—hónɡyǎn红眼”are analyzed according to the data extracted from the“Sketch Engine”,and finally the collostruction-semantic structure of the source language is reproduced in English in a transliteration manner.
