A Report On The C-E Translation Of “Management And Operation Codes Of Machining Equipment”

Driven by globalization and the “go global” initiative of China,the world sees the deeper exchange and cooperation between China and others on the scientific and technological field.Based on that,the needs for sci-tech text translations increase,and the researches on related translations deserve harder efforts in depth.The translator takes two translation texts from two companies to compose the translation report accordingly.The source texts with technical information illuminate the codes of technical operations and management of machinery in the processing industry,belonging to the scientific and technological field.Under the guidance of Register Theory,the translator discusses the equivalence of three dimensions—field,tenor,and mode in the translation.From the levels of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,the textual features and difficulties are analyzed and relevant translation methods are selected.From the perspective of field,the sci-tech terminology featuring normalization is one of the technical text characteristics.The translation method of“Questioning,searching,identification,expression” benefits the translation of technical and semi-technical vocabulary,which accurately transmits the theme of field.From the perspective of tenor,to precisely convey the participants’ interpersonal relationship and purpose of communication,conversion is used to turn the non-subject sentences in the source texts into passive sentences or addition for the supplement of the sentence components.And ellipsis and adjustment of the structures are adopted to reorganize the sentence information.As for mode,textual logic cohesion and semantic coherence can be achieved through cohesion methods and nominalization,and the rigorous,concise language style of sci-tech texts is reproduced.This translation practice report deepens the understanding of the features of technical texts,such as professionalism and normality of words,formal expression,rigorous structure,and textual cohesion and coherence.Meanwhile,under the guidance of Register Theory,translation methods suitable for technical texts have been explored,providing some reference for the translation research of scientific and technological texts in the future.
