After nearly two decades of development,the Chinese Teacher Volunteer Program has selected and trained a large number of volunteer Chinese teachers.It is called the cradle of international Chinese teachers and has made outstanding contributions to the international Chinese education and promotion cause.At the early stage of the novel coronavirus outbreak,the project was greatly hindered and stalled for a time.After the epidemic was brought under control,the project had a difficult restart.The practice of the project needs the guidance of academic achievements.After reading a lot of literature,the author found that the research on the combination of the novel coronavirus epidemic and the Chinese teacher volunteer project is very rare in the academic circle,and it is still in the exploratory stage.In view of this,the author took the opportunity to experience the Chinese teacher volunteer project under the COVID-19 pandemic and took the implementation of the project in 2021 as an example.Through data analysis,questionnaires and targeted interviews,the author conducted a systematic and comprehensive investigation on the implementation of the recruitment,selection,training,arrival and departure of the project.The study found that the effectiveness of the volunteer project of Chinese teachers under the COVID-19 epidemic includes five aspects: first,the recruitment work is independent,which is conducive to dealing with the epidemic situation;Secondly,the selection work is flexible and the volunteer teachers are strong.Third,online training mode is used to ensure the smooth implementation of training;Fourthly,epidemic prevention and teaching are guaranteed,and volunteers are in good physical and mental condition;Fifth,the project is recognized by volunteers,and the proportion of talents retained is considerable.In addition,the deficiencies in the implementation of volunteer Chinese teacher projects under the COVID-19 epidemic are mainly reflected in five aspects: first,the publicity of the project is not strong,and no targeted countermeasures have been introduced;Second,the coordination of recruitment and selection is weak,and there is a lack of linkage among institutes.Third,training and demand is not close,the curriculum is not reasonable;Fourth,the appointment of difficulties to solve the lack of strong safeguards;Fifth,the treatment of leaving office is not enough to publicize,and the actual treatment is not guaranteed.In view of the shortcomings in the implementation of Chinese teacher volunteer projects under the COVID-19 epidemic,this study puts forward five suggestions for improvement:first,strengthen the publicity of the project and show the attraction of the project;Second,strengthen the interaction among Confucius Institutes and coordinate recruitment and selection;Third,do a good job of training demand survey,reasonable adjustment of content;Fourthly,establish a multi-party communication platform to solve the practical difficulties of taking the job;Fifth,we should strengthen preferential treatment policies for projects and guarantee follow-up development after leaving office.
