In the context of today’s Chinese language boom and thanks to the continuous development of Internet technology, online Chinese teaching has become a key mode of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. However, compared to the traditional offline teaching mode, online teaching requires higher skills and literacy from teachers, who must use non-speaking language forms such as body language, facial expressions and gestures to achieve the purpose of teaching. This paper uses three research methods: literature research, case study research and classroom observation,to analyse and explore the use of body language in the online Chinese as a foreign language classroom in the new context, using the Lingoace online classroom as an example. This paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an overview of the research, which firstly explains the theoretical and practical significance of this paper, and then compares and summarizes the research of previous generations on the three aspects of teaching Chinese as a foreign language: corporal language, online teaching and teaching platform.Chapter 3 combines the author’s practical work experience with the basic situation of teachers’ use of gestures in the classroom, classifies Lingoace teachers’ gestures and summarises the specific use and functions of gestures in the Lingoace primary level courses.Chapter 4 is about classroom observation and analysis. The author uses Lingoace classroom examples as a model and observes the actual situation of three teachers in the classroom, collects data on teachers’ use of gestures, explores and analyses the use of gestures in both positive and negative aspects, and sorts out the benefits of positive gestures and the negative effects of negative gestures in online Chinese teaching.Chapter 5 draws inspiration from the advantages and disadvantages, and draws out the problems and misunderstandings of teachers’ use of corporal language in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and finally returns to the teachers’ teaching itself to propose improvement strategies to avoid mistakes in the use of corporal language,in order to provide some reference for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
