Research On The Rituals And Social Functions Of The Wudong Miao Drum Festival

The Drum Festival is not only a grand traditional festival of the Miao people,but also a national intangible cultural heritage.In recent years,because of its unique ethnic characteristics and cultural value,it has continuously attracted attention and research from all walks of life.At present,the academic research on the Drum Festival has achieved corresponding results,which provides a literature basis and research paradigm for future generations to study the Drum Festival.Based on the research of predecessors,this paper adopts the fieldwork method of ethnological tradition,takes the Drum Festival of the Miao ethnic group in Wudong Village,Leishan County,Guizhou Province as the research object and content,explains and analyzes the ritual process of the Drum Festival,explores the value function of the Drum Festival in forging the consciousness of the Chinese national community,and puts forward a practical path to adapt to the development of China’s ethnic society with practice as the guide.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the main research contents of this paper are as follows:The first part mainly describes the main overview of Wudong Miaozhai.Specifically related to the natural geographical environment and historical evolution of Wudong Village;The socio-economic and cultural traditions of Wudong Miaozhai.The second part describes the origin and ritual process of the Drum Festival.The main contents of this part include the dragon recruitment before the festival,the selection of drums and cows,the generation of drums and ghost masters,drumming ceremonies,and bullfighting activities;Visitors on the day of the festival,pig killing and ancestor worship ceremony,eating lump meat,dancing asparagus,Tibetan drums,etc.The third part mainly analyzes the symbols in the Miao Drum Festival ceremony.Specifically,it involves the symbol of wooden drums,the hiding head of drums with local authority,the exchange of gifts during festivals,bullfighting activities with status symbols,and the display of blood relatives and in-laws.Through the study,it is found that the Wudong Miao Festival is not only a traditional festival culture with ethnic characteristics,but also plays an important role in strengthening the common value concept of the group,enhancing the cohesion of the internal group,and enhancing the national identity of the group.
