A Further Exploration Of The Expression Of Gongbi Painting Based On The Subject Of Cats In The Two Song Dynasties

The internal society of the two Song dynasties was relatively prosperous and stable,reaching a peak in ancient Chinese society,and the development of civic culture and brush painting reached an unprecedented level,which led to the focus on civic culture,and cats were commonly kept as pets at this time.In line with the timeline of the take-off of brush painting from the Late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties to the Song Dynasty,more excellent paintings with cats as the subject matter appeared.Influenced by the dominance of the palace workshops,most of the paintings on cats in the Song Dynasty were delicate,elegant and beautiful,and had a profound impact on later generations because of their absolute mastery of technique.Cat painting has become a unique and interesting subject in the history of painting,riding on the golden development of Song dynasty painting,which also makes Song dynasty cat painting of high research value and promotes the modern expression of this subject in the context of today’s hot cat culture.On the theoretical side,we compiled the literature on cats in the two Song dynasties,sorted out the reasons for the prosperity of cat paintings in the two Song dynasties through documentary research,summarized the creative psychology,the background of the times,and the cultural symbolism of cat paintings in the Song dynasty,and organized the development of cat paintings in the two Song dynasties in a more complete way.Afterwards,we summarize all the surviving work-pen paintings on cat subjects from the two Song dynasties and use image analysis as a means to corroborate the ideas of the Song people in their paintings from the levels of composition,brushwork,color,rhythm,and objects,as well as restore the expression of the Song people’s work-pen paintings on cat subjects with in-depth analysis,laying a solid theoretical basis and technical foundation for the re-exploration of the expression of work-pen paintings on cat subjects from the two Song dynasties.In practice,the author looks at cat paintings from the perspective of today’s social psychology.On the basis of the Song people’s gongbi paintings of cats,the author introduces new art language expressions to explore the contemporary aesthetics,thus creating gongbi paintings that can express the public’s group psychology towards cats.The work is mainly based on the conception of the theme,the collection and arrangement of materials,the composition and layout of the picture,the expression of the magic of the brush and ink lines,the use of color under the new aesthetic trend and the emotional expression of the symbolic meaning.Through the exploration and practice of this paper,we explore the cultural spirit behind the painting of cat subjects,which will serve as a guide for the future creation of animal-themed brush painting.
