An E-C Translation Practice Report On Education,Children’s Social Care And Offending (Excerpt)

This E-C translation practice report is based on the material Education,Children’s Social Care and Offending which has been commissioned by Chengdu Excellent Translation Service Co.,Lt.The source text focuses on the influence factors of children who have been cautioned or sentenced for an offence,such as the education of children and the social care received by the children.It gives an in-depth analysis of the social phenomenon “children’s delinquency”.This translation practice has extracted the material of section one and section two from source text.The source text belongs to social science category.At the lexical level,the language is accurate and precise,containing a large number of professional terms related to children’s education and offence.At the syntactic level,the source text uses a large number of long sentences,which mostly use the passive voice and contain many clauses such as attributive clause and adverbial clause.These two difficulties are also major translation problems that the translator encounters in translation.Therefore,this report focuses on term translation and sentence translation in the source text.In terms of term in source text,it has been classified into three categories according to their different connotations,namely,terms related to education,terms related to social care and terms related to children’s offence.To deal with term translation,the translator mostly uses literal translation,free translation and amplification.For the passive voice in sentence translation,the translator adopts voice conversion.For the translation of adverbial clause,the translator mostly adopts the translation strategies of sentence reconstruction and omission.To cope with the attributive clause,the translator mainly adopts the pre-position and post-position.Based on the Eco-translatology proposed by Hu Gengshen,this translation practice report analyzes term translation and sentence translation from the linguistic dimension,culture dimension and communicative dimension,reproducing the translator’s thinking process to achieve an accurate and authentic translation work.The translator hopes that this translation practice report can provide some references for the translation of social science text.
