A Report On Escort Interpreting Of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum

This report is based on the author’s interpreting practice in the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum in June 2022.The report provides a thorough analysis,evaluation,and summary of the working process of the interpreting practice project.This is done after repeated listening,transcription,and analysis of the recording process.Based on her own experiences,the author meticulously prepared this report by thoroughly analyzing her practical interpreting practice,with the following goals in mind: first,to provide a certain reference value for the dissemination of excellent Bayu culture,Three Gorges culture,urban culture of Chongqing and folk customs of Southwest China;second,combined with the characteristics of escort interpreting,some solutions to the problems that may be encountered in similar projects of escort interpreting in museums are proposed.The author adopts Interpretive Theory as the theoretic guidance in order to convey the implication of language while offering to interpret for clients.Guided by the interpretive theory and combined with typical cases,this report summarizes the problems encountered in the three stages of practice,comprehension – de-verbalization – reformulation,such as the abundance of culture-loaded words,significant regional characteristics,and environmental impact,and further discusses how to achieve the communicative purpose and complete the interpretation task through skills such as information chunking,note-taking,generalization,omission,and reorganization,so as to summarize some techniques,experiences and provide help for future related interpreting practice.By presenting the experience and knowledge gained from this practice,the author learned how to handle the target language using the triangle model of interpretive theory,and realized the value of handling the translation flexibly and de-verbalization while interpreting.In addition,the author also holds that interpreters should practice their craft,increase their knowledge base,and adequately prepare before interpreting.Interpreters should become more adaptable and employ suitable tactics to overcome difficulties.Post-interpreting assessment should be used to reflect,summarize,and further study.
