The short film The Road Home is a graduation joint production by Tang Lu(director,screenwriter)and Wu Jiao(screenwriter,producer),MFA of School of Arts at Peking University.Facing the fact that Hong Kong youth Zhang Heng’s father died,he was unable to let go.Therefore,he took the old objects that date back to 20 years ago came to Guangzhou,walking the same road where his father had passed by.Intermittent clues are used to piece together memory of his father.In this story,"Three rabbits share the same ear",the caisson drawing of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang,is regarded as the hidden line to run through the whole time.Obsession with Dunhuang culture has been passed from adherence of the previous generation to the next generation.This paper elaborates on how the author,as a director,develops story structure in the cross-cultural background,how to shape characters,and how to complete main line and the secondary line by two-line narration.This paper is based on combing of theory and reflection on practice,hoping to give some inspiration to students who want to shoot similar works in the future.
