| At the Facebook Connect 2021,Mark Zuckerberg announced his decision to change his company’s name Facebook into Meta and revealed his vision of metaverse, which attracted much attention. After that conference,Mark Zuckerberg received a lot of interview invitations and the material selected in the report is one of the interviews. The writer conducted a simulated consecutive interpreting of Tim Ferriss’ online interview with Mark Zuckerberg about his vision of the metaverse and his attitude toward his work. This report is based on the analysis of this simulated practice.Despite the writer’s pre-interpreting preparation, she still met some problems in the interpreting process. To keep the interpreting task afloat, the writer used the Interpretive Theory as a guide to deal with the challenges encountered during the interpretation process. For example, when challenges such as unfamiliar words and expressions, information redundancy and logical confusion occurred, the writer adopted interpreting tactics like zero translation, generalization and omission selectively to process the information. In the end of this report, summary and reflection on this simulated practice were made.Through the analysis and conclusion of this task, the writer has realized that although some interpreting techniques can help interpreters deliver the overall content, they should not be satisfied with the application of techniques;instead, they should constantly broaden their encyclopedic knowledge. In addition, when interpreting interviews featuring colloquial expressions, interpreters should understand the content before taking notes so as to alleviate the memory burden caused by too many symbols and achieve deverbalization. |
