Urban Writing Of Western Novels In The New Century

This paper studies the urban writing of western novels in the new century.On the basis of reading a large number of novels by western writers such as Yi Zhou,Ye Zhou,Guo Wenbin,Ma Jinlian,Ma Busheng,Li Jinxiang,Ashe,Shi Shengrong,Xu Zhaoshou,Mei Zhuo,Bai Ma Nazhen,Ni Xueli and Harridan Ischelles,this paper firstly explores the representation of the city in western novels in the new century--the writing of landscape.The author holds that the novel of western cities in the new century shows the modern face of western cities by describing the production landscape,living landscape and consumption landscape of cities.Based on the close reading of the text,it fully explains the production landscape such as construction site,factory and office building,life landscape such as wet market,residential building and rental house,and consumption landscape such as song and dance hall,bar and shopping mall.The exhibition explores the cultural significance behind the landscape.Secondly,based on the analysis of landscape writing,this paper takes the urban survival writing of western novels in the new century as the research object,sorts out the different living conditions of many groups in the city,including migrant workers at the bottom,freelancers,college teachers,college students and ordinary citizens,and deeply discusses the spiritual situation of western city people.In addition,this paper analyzes the conflict mode of urban and rural writing in western novels in the new century,and deeply thinks about the connotation of modern anxiety,such as existential anxiety and identity anxiety,and explores the connotation of keeping watch on the tradition of this mode.Finally,this paper places the research object in the sequence of urban writing since modern times,sums up the value of urban writing in western novels in the new century to show the appearance of western cities and explore the traditional spirit,and reflects on its limitations such as lack of narrative resources and pattern tendency.This study makes a comprehensive analysis of the urban writing of western novels since the new century,broadens the domain of urban literature research,and opens a window for the outside world to understand the literature of western cities.
