A New Exploration Of Liang Qichao’s Ethnic Theory

In modern China,with the introduction of western ethnic theory into China,Chinese ethnic concept from the traditional to the modernization.In this context,Liang Qichao combined with the western ethnic theory,put forward a new view on ethnic issues,and then formed a unique ethnic theory,which has an important position in the development of Chinese ethnic history.First,Liang Qichao’s theory of ethnic origin can be classified as the transformation from 1905,when he argued that China and the West are homologous,to 1922,when he argued that China and the West have different origins and different ancestors,which reflects three characteristics: the stage of discussion on the origin of Han species,the authenticity of the origin of various ethnic groups,and the limitation of the understanding of ethnic origin.His viewpoint challenged the traditional understanding of the common origin of the same ancestor and influenced the modern transformation of ethnic history.Promoted the emergence of the theory of unity in diversity.Secondly,Liang Qichao’s theory of ethnic formation can be summarized as the mixed theory of Han ethnic group with Chinese ethnic group as the main body and the theory of Chinese ethnic formation with Zhu Xia as the main body,which reflects three characteristics: the discussion of the stage of ethnic formation,the pioneering definition of related ethnic groups,and the limitation of the understanding of ethnic formation.His views sublimated the ancient understanding of ethnic formation and accelerated the construction of the history of modern ethnic formation.It will help build a stronger sense of community among the Chinese nation.Thirdly,Liang Qichao’s theory of Manchurian and Han relations can be summarized as the theory of Manchurian and Han people changing with Xia,the theory of ethnic antagonism full of revolution,and the theory of ethnic group-building integrated with Manchurian and Han,which reflects three characteristics: the stage of the discussion of Manchurian and Han relations,the groundbreaking introduction of ethnicism,and the limitation of the understanding of Manchurian and Han relations.His viewpoint gives new connotation to the debate of Xia and Han and promotes the modern transformation of ethnic relations.It reveals the construction of modern ethnic relations.Fourth,Liang Qichao’s theory of ethnic sovereignty can be summarized as the theory of autonomy of Manchu and Mongolia Railway,the theory of sovereignty autonomy of Tibet and the theory of sovereignty self-determination of Western Xinjiang,which reflects the three characteristics of pertinence,feasibility and limitation of the understanding of ethnic sovereignty.His viewpoint has promoted the transformation of the ancient ethnic discrimination policy and played a positive role in the construction of modern ethnic sovereign state.It can be used for reference in the construction of contemporary ethnic governance system.
