National Salvation Or Army Expansion:A Research On The Exhibition Of National Salvation In The Guangdong Mass Educational Museum(1932-1936)

In March 1934,under the impetus of Guangdong’s three-year policy plan,the Guangdong Mass Educational Museum was officially established in Jinghui Park,Guangzhou.Initiated by Xie Yingzhou and prepared by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province,the museum is the central institution of social education in the province.Since the September 18 th Incident,the national salvation movement has gradually revolved around the mass education museum.In this context,Guangdong Mass Educational Museum also integrated national salvation propaganda into the exhibition,and gradually became the main place for Guangzhou to carry out the national salvation movement by holding national salvation exhibitions and commemorative activities.However,the birth of the Guangdong Mass Educational Museum coincided with the confrontation between the Guangdong government and the Kuomintang Central Committee.Due to the split within the Kuomintang,the political and military struggle between the north and the south turned into a public opinion war of "saving the country" among the people,and "resisting Japan and saving the country" became a tool for the warlord struggle.Therefore,the National Salvation Exhibition of the Guangdong Mass Educational Museum during this period has its special political significance,and this paper restores the National Salvation Exhibition of the museum with the help of newspaper and periodical materials,and discusses the intention and social impact of the National Salvation Exhibition from different perspectives through the analysis of the symbols and elements in the exhibition of the museum.This paper starts with the activities of the People’s Education Center from the perspective of the National Salvation Movement,first describes why the People’s Education Center changed from literacy education to national salvation propaganda,and analyzes the background and general situation of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Education Center.Secondly,the functions and characteristics of the exhibition activities of the People’s Education Center are briefly introduced,and the edification effect of the exhibition on the people is explained,so that it is different from the general public exhibition.Then,from the perspective of exhibition and educational activities,the opening exhibition of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Education Museum in 1934 is taken as an example to make a specific analysis of the exhibition display,especially the national salvation elements in the exhibition,and discuss the potential intention of the exhibition in light of the social background.Then from the perspective of educational activities,the way the People’s Education Hall carried out national salvation propaganda was expounded.Taking the 1937 Guangdong Provincial Air Defense Exhibition as an example,the exhibition ran through the whole process of the "The Liang Guang Incident" from preparation to implementation,from the initial political tool of warlord confrontation to the national salvation propaganda of the National War of Resistance,through the analysis of its propaganda means and social impact,it is helpful to understand how the People’s Education Museum creates a national salvation atmosphere in the exhibition and shapes the educational space.
