The Evolution Of Female Consciousness In Yan Geling’s Novels

Since the 1980 s,Yan Geling has been writing non-stop,with high-quality and productive works have been widely concerned and recognized at home and abroad.Yan Geling’s creative style shows obvious personal characteristics,and she has made remarkable achievements in feminist literature,Chinese immigrant literature and other creative subjects.In the vast majority of Yan Geling’s works,“Suffering”is the normal life of her characters,is a touch of the background of her novels.Throughout Yan Geling’s novel creation,she created a series of characters struggling in the suffering,struggling with the fate of the image.These characters in the process of transcending suffering,in the search for redemption,redemption of others in the process,the brilliance of humanity flickers in them.Redemption narrative,especially between the two sexes,runs through Yan Geling’s novel creation.In Yan Geling’s novels of different periods,the mode of redemption between the two sexes is also developing and changing.From this development and change,we can see the transformation of the writer’s female consciousness at a deeper level.This paper takes Yan Geling’s major novels from 1980 s to present as the research object,combs the male and female images and the redemption narrative mode between the two sexes in the main representative works of each period,and through the exploration and analysis of the male and female images in the novels of different periods,to reveal the female consciousness behind them,and explain the process of this change.The main body of the thesis is divided into six chapters,the introduction summarizes the life of Yan Geling and the research status quo of her novels,as well as the main research content and research significance of this thesis.The first chapter is about the differentiation of the two core concepts in this paper.The narrative of sexual redemption,which is a kind of narrative pattern in Yan Geling’s novels,shows the mutual salvation between the two sexes.The female consciousness refers to the female subject consciousness inward,and the female situation with the male as the reference object outward.The second to the fifth chapter is the key part of this article,divides Yan Geling’s novel creation into three different periods,analyzes the male and female image in the different period work and the redemption pattern.The second chapter takes the novels of the first period as the object of study.The women of this period always seek external salvation in the predicament,which is manifested in the novels as the false salvation of the“Disqualified hero” to the“Weak woman”.The writing of women’s bodies and the plight of women in these novels reveal the solicitude for women’s plight in the works of this period,but the images of weak women reveal that the female consciousness behind them is not perfect and lacks subjectivity,in the novels written in the second period,women have changed greatly from seeking the salvation of others to trying to save the others,the divinity image of the Earth Mother became the representative female image in the novels of this period,correspondingly,in order to correspond with the earth mother who redeemed the evil,the male image of this period was dwarfed by whoring,gambling,or mentally handicapped prodigal son.But this kind of flesh body to the divinity compulsion reaches under the salvation,is not the real sense of salvation.This narrative,which elevates the female image to divinity in order to solve the female predicament,is not a true interpretation of female consciousness.In the novels of the first two periods,the mode of salvation is incomplete,which is embodied in the salvation of one of the two sexes to the other,and does not achieve the salvation of humanity in the true sense.In the third period,the gender consciousness in Yan Geling’s novels tends to balance,and the subjectivity of female consciousness also tends to perfect.The women in the novels of this period no longer point the hope of redemption to others,but rely on their own power to grow up independently in the world fireworks,to be able to take charge of the big woman.The female subject consciousness also moves toward the integrity in this stage.Male image also broke the shackles of“Imperfection”,become plump and bloody,and grow into a real hero.Although the works of the last period are the end of the narrative of redemption,both male and female images have the independence of personality,real Redemption is not a game of power relations,not to put one side or the other on the pedestal of the gender,but to balance the consciousness of the gender subject,to achieve balance in the relationship.The last chapter is the conclusion of this article,from female,to divinity,and then to womanhood,which is the changing vein of the female characters in Yan Geling’s novels,it is also the development of female consciousness in Yan Geling’s novels.
