A Report On The Translation Practice Of Economic Anthropological Texts From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

This translation text is selected from the American economic anthropology book Indebted : How Families Make College Work at Any Cost.The present text analyzes the diverse issues that American parents encounter when their children attend college and provides corresponding remedies.Through the translation of this text,we can learn more about the response of American families in the face of the debt crisis,which can be used as a reference for our people in dealing with economic problems.The selected text is the text of economic anthropology.Economic anthropology emphasizes an integrated,holistic approach to problems,rather than just looking at specific behaviors in isolation.In Eco-Translatology studies,the perspective of “three-dimensional transformations ” focuses on the ecological balance between source language and target language,source language culture and target language culture,source author and target language reader and other comprehensive factors.It also requires holistic thinking and opposes treating problems from an isolated perspective.Although the two concepts are very similar,the use of Eco-Translatology theory to guide the translation of economic anthropological texts is scarce.To solve this problem,this paper tries to guide the translation practice of economic anthropological texts with the translation theory of “three-dimensional transformations”in Eco-translatology.Combined with the specific case analysis,the translator discussed the adaptive choices in the process of translation from the three dimensions of language,culture and communication,containing the strategies and abilities of translation.In language dimension,there are great differences between Chinese and English,to avoid the ambiguity caused by language transmission deviation,the translator adopted the translation skills such as parts-of-speech conversion,split translation to improve the quality of the translation.In cultural dimension,in order to help the target language readers understand the culture of the source language more accurately and solve the problem of cultural vacancy or cultural imbalance,the translator adopted domestication strategies for culture-loaded words and idioms without specific cultural images and paid attention to the transmission of their cultural connotations.In the communicative dimension,in order to ensure the fluency of the translation and the acceptability of the readers,the translator adopted the methods of additional translation,free translation and additional translation to convey the communicative intention.This translation practice proves that the “ three-dimensional transformations ”theory of Eco-translatology has certain theoretical significance in translating texts of economic anthropology to a certain extent,at the same time,the translator have accumulated some strategies and methods for translating this type of text.
