A Report On The C-E Translation Of Essentials Of Chinese Wushu Culture (Lectures 4-6)

Chinese Wushu culture,as an significant part of traditional Chinese culture,has a close relationship with Chinese classical philosophy and literature,traditional Chinese medicine theory and military affairs.It has a long history and profound cultural connotation,and is an important carrier of Chinese traditional culture.The English translation of Wushu culture is conducive to strengthening the exchange and mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign cultures and promoting the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.This translation report is based on the translation of the forth,fifth and sixth lectures of Essentials of Chinese Wushu Culture,written by Wang Gang,a professor of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education.In this work,professor Wang Gang elaborates the concept and definition of Wushu,the historical trace of Wushu techniques to Chinese Wushu,and Chinese Wushu as the condensation of traditional philosophy as well as a nationalized way of life.Essentials of Chinese Wushu Culture is the only work on the interpretation of the essence of Wushu culture in China at present and the first multi-dimensional analysis of Wushu culture.It is a comprehensive research result of Wushu culture,and also the final result of the National Social Science Fund project.At present,there is no English translation version in China,and this translation practice is the first attempt to translate the book into English.The practice report consists of four parts.The first part is an introduction to the translation project,including the translation background,significance,a brief introduction of the source text and the author.The second part analyzes the language characteristics of the source text and the typicality of the selected content,and introduces the use of translation aids and the selection of translation theories from the aspects of preparation before translation,difficulties encountered in translation,and post-translation summary.The third part is the case analysis and theoretical application.The translator takes Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory as the guiding theory of translation,and discusses translation difficulties encountered in translation practice and relevant translation strategies adopted from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The fourth part summarizes the experience gained in this translation practice,analyzes the shortcomings in translation practice,and puts forward some suggestions for future translation practice.
