| English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)proposes to strengthen the integrity of unit-teaching and promote the implementation of Overall Unit Instruction.With the continuous practice and summing up of experience,teachers in basic education gradually found that “What can be used to integrate Overall Unit Instruction?” has become a difficult point in the effective implementation of Overall Unit Instruction.In this context,Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives(RBT)caters to this need,which is conducive to guiding teachers to integrate course content,overall planning of instructional and assessment activities,helping teachers lead students to form “Big Ideas” of a unit,and promoting the integrated development of students’ Key Competencies.This thesis takes 54 students from a class of a junior high school in grade 8 as the research participants,and a 9-week action research was conducted,aiming at constantly adjusting and improving Overall Unit Instruction under the guidance of RBT,to improve the teaching quality of teachers and the learning quality of students.The research method of this thesis is both qualitative and quantitative.The research data mainly include classroom observation and interviews,supplemented by tests and teacher reflection journals.There are three research questions:(1)How to implement Overall Unit Instruction guided by RBT in Junior High School English Teaching?(2)What are the effects of Overall Unit Instruction in Junior High School English Teaching guided by RBT on students’ English learning performance?(3)What are the effects of Overall Unit Instruction in Junior High School English Teaching guided by RBT on students’ English learning interest?The researcher observes English class and interviews English teacher of the class in the beginning.It is found that there are some problems in the class such as “the fragmentation of Overall Unit Instruction”,“lack of higher-order cognitive activities"and “single assessment method”.Based on these problems,the researcher tries to integrate RBT into Overall Unit Instruction,and develops an action research plan.The whole research process covers two rounds of action research.In the first-round of action,the researcher designs and implements Unit4,which is from the second semester of grade8(People’s Education Press Edition,PEP Edition for short).During the process of the action,the researcher observes and records these classes according to the observation scale about students’ classroom behavior,and writes teacher reflection journals.After the first-round of action,students are interviewed and the unit test is collected for comparison and analysis.Based on the feedback of the first-round of action research,the researcher begins to design Unit5 for the second-round of action,observes and records the class,and writes teacher reflection journals.After the secondround of action,English teacher of this class and students are further interviewed,and the unit test is collected for data analysis.Finally,based on the results of two rounds of action research data,the implementation effect of this research is evaluated.The results show that Overall Unit Instruction in junior high school English teaching guided by RBT can improve students’ English learning attitude,stimulate students’ interest in English learning,and improve students’ English learning performance to a certain extent.At the same time,the researcher summarizes four principles during the practice,namely “Based on Curriculum Standard,Based on Learners,Based on Theme,Based on RBT”,and proposes the design procedure of Overall Unit Instruction guided by RBT,the researcher abstracts it as “analyzeintegrate-construct-reflect”,hoping to have a reference value for Overall Unit Instruction in Junior High School English Teaching.Due to the limitations of time and research objects,the unit tests used,and the limited educational experience and research ability of the researcher,there are still some deficiencies in this research.Therefore,the researchers and teachers need to make more efforts to further improve in the future researches.The researcher sincerely hopes that this action research can provide some guidance for junior high school English teachers,help them to enhance the awareness of English Overall Unit Instruction,improve Overall Unit Instruction in junior high school English teaching,and promote the quality of English teaching. |
