| Nowadays,along with the intensification of the phenomenon of "in-rolling" in all walks of life,more and more families are giving their children higher expectations,which in effect not only increases their children’s academic pressure and interpersonal pressure,but also reduces their life satisfaction and causes various negative psychological problems.Especially for secondary school students,their physical and psychological changes are in a period of rapid change,so the influence of family on their life satisfaction is more obvious.There are many factors that affect the life satisfaction of secondary school students,among which the ability to comprehend social support is an important factor that affects life satisfaction.As an individual’s affective evaluation of self,self-esteem has a moderating effect and ultimately affects secondary school students’ life satisfaction is the question that needs to be explored in this study.Therefore,this study attempts to examine the relationship between family functioning,perceived social support,life satisfaction and self-esteem among secondary school students.In this study,the Family Functioning Scale,the Adolescent Life Satisfaction Scale,the Appreciative Social Support Scale,and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Inventory were used as research instruments to collect data from a total of 800 middle school students in four middle schools in Tianjin,Shanxi Province and Hebei Province,and the results were as follows.(1)Secondary school students’ family functioning,comprehending social support,selfesteem and life satisfaction were at moderate to high levels;there were significant differences in the total scores and some dimensions of secondary school students’ family functioning,perceived social support,self-esteem and life satisfaction in terms of grade level,father’s literacy level,mother’s literacy level and family structure.(2)There were significant positive correlations between the four variables of family functioning,perceived social support,self-esteem and life satisfaction among secondary school students.(3)The mediating effect of perceived social support between family functioning and life satisfaction was significant,self-esteem moderated the second half of the mediation process of "family functioning → perceived social support → life satisfaction".On this basis,this study concludes as follows:A good level of family function can improve the life satisfaction of middle school students,and can also affect the life satisfaction level of middle school students by understanding the mediating role of social support and the moderating role of self-esteem in understanding the influence path of social support on life satisfaction. |
