Research On The Historical Materialism Of Engels’ Five Letters In His Late Years

Historical materialism reveals the basic law of social contradiction movement and is an important part of Marxist theory.Although Engels called himself the second violinist,his contribution to the creation and development of historical materialism is still indelible.In his later years,Engels defended and developed Marxism in correspondence with many scholars,further clarified the basic position and viewpoint of historical materialism,and supplemented and emphasized some contents of historical materialism.An in-depth study of these letters will help to further deepen the understanding of the theory of historical materialism,explore its theoretical value and practical significance,and combine it with the practice of building socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.Based on the theory of historical materialism,based on the new era,this paper grasps the writing background and motivation of Engels’ five letters of historical materialism in his later years,deeply studies the historical materialism contained in the letters,and provides practical enlightenment for the construction and development of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.In addition to the introduction,this paper is divided into four parts: The first part,first of all,starting from the definition of Engels’ s later years and five letters,combined with the new characteristics and trends of the development of capitalism at that time,the difficulties faced by historical materialism,discusses the realistic background and theoretical motivation of letter writing.The second part expounds the main content of Engels’ s historical materialism in five letters: discussing the integrity of historical materialism;affirmed the decisive role of economic factors in the historical process;the relative independence of the superstructure is clarified;originally put forward the theory of historical resultant force;it expounds that the historical process is the dialectical unity of inevitability and contingency;it clarifies the misinterpretation of hostile historical materialism.The third part,the theoretical contribution of historical materialism in Engels’ five letters in his later years,implements the methodological principles of historical materialism,highlights the principle of the unity of materialism and dialectics,the unity of logic and history,and the method of studying the integrity of historical problems,and analyzes the theoretical value and practical value contained in the five letters.The fourth part,based on the above content,discusses the practical enlightenment to the actual development of the new era.The historical materialism thought in Engels’ five letters in his later years still has important practical guiding significance for the development of China in the new era: first,adhere to the historical dialectics to continuously promote the Sinicization of Marxism;secondly,we should grasp the ultimate role of the economy and promote high-quality development with economic construction as the center;thirdly,grasping the dominance of Marxism and strengthening the construction of socialist ideology are particularly prominent in the new era;finally,give full play to the historical synergy,unite China’s strength to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
