Ancestral Identity Construction And Hakka Clan Development

Wu Luojun is the ancestor of the Wu clan of Ninghua,Fujian,and also the land god of Ninghua,the relevant records first appeared in Chongzhen’s Ninghua County Record.Based on the old Wu genealogy revised in the early Ming Dynasty,Li Shixiong established the "standardized" identity of Wu Luojun as the "pioneer of Ninghua" in the Kangxi Ninghua County Record,which was inherited by future country record.In addition to Li Shixiong,Wu Yihou,a descendant of the Wu clan,also played a key role in the construction of the ancestor identity.The historical materials of the correspondence between Wu and Li included in the Hanzhi Collection are an important reference for studying the origin and evolution of Wu Luojun’s identity.Jiangxi Shicheng "Guobei Huang clan",also known as "Wufu Huang clan",is a descendant that changes their surname of the Ninghua Wu clan.The story of the ancestors Wu Shuangrui’royalty and Wu Bichao’s "change surname Wu to Huang" has been passed down in the clan to today.Like Wu Luojun,Wu Shuangrui and Wu Bichao are not recorded in the official history,but in the writing of country record in the Qing Dynasty,the identity of Wu Shuangrui has been continuously enriched and full,and the Shicheng County Record from the early Qing to the middle of the Qing Dynasty reflects this change.In the twenty-fifth year of the Republic of China(1936),the compilation of the "General Genealogy of the Wu Clan" was completed,which was a conscious joint activity spontaneously carried out by the Wu clan.All the sequences in the general spectrum can reflect the dynamic process of the gradual unification of the Wu clan in many southern provinces.Since then,the Xigong faction,the largest branch of the Wu clan,has successfully united with the Ninghua Wu clan,Wu Luojun has actually become the ancestor of the Wu clan in the southern provinces.During the revision period,Luo Xianglin obtained a copy of Wu’s "origin" from the chief cultivator Wu Xinhuan for research purposes,and made the judgment that "the first to open up its land(referring to Ninghua)in the Tang Dynasty was Wu Luojun and his son",then Wu Luojun has since obtained the status of "Hakka ancestor",and a typical Hakka clan was born.
