A Probe Into The Rhetoric Phenomenon Of Met Language

Metalinguistic rhetorical phenomenon is a special subcategory of rhetorical phenomena,focusing on the metalinguistic aspect of rhetorical activities.Under the guidance of language hierarchy theory and metalinguistic function theory,based on the analysis and description of various metalinguistic rhetorical examples,this paper discusses its definition,classification,linguistic principles,rhetorical effects and rhetorical principles,etc.It aims to systematically sort out the phenomenon of metalinguistic rhetoric phenomenon.First,the concept of metalinguistic rhetorical phenomena is defined.The phenomenon of meta-language rhetoric involves the two concepts of "meta-language" and "rhetoric",in which the meta-language is expressed in a variety of forms,which can be "meta-language" relative to the object language,or "meta-language" as a symbol code and "meta-language" that plays a role in meta-language;rhetoric refers to rhetorical activities or rhetorical behaviors,and communicative activities are a kind of rhetorical behavior.Metalinguistic rhetorical phenomena refer to linguistic phenomena that exert a unique rhetorical effect by exploiting the hierarchical nature of language or through the operation of potential Metalinguistic languages in rhetorical activities.Based on the external form and intrinsic properties of the meta-language,that is,whether the phenomenon of meta-language rhetoric occurs due to the different meanings of the meta-language and object language in the language table,or due to the potential meta-language function,it can be subdivided into explicit meta-language rhetoric and latent meta-language rhetoric.Secondly,it describes the linguistic principles arising from the phenomenon of explicit meta-language rhetoric and the phenomenon of latent meta-language rhetoric.Explicit meta-language rhetorical phenomenon refers to the use of language hierarchy to create rhetorical effects of the linguistic phenomenon,can be divided into referential meta-language rhetoric,self-meta-language rhetoric and meta-language rhetorical phenomenon focused on language code,describing the dominant meta-language rhetoric phenomenon focuses on distinguishing between the object language and the meta-language different states of existence.Meta-language operation is the translation process of interpreting other symbols with similar meanings in the same language into a language symbol,and the phenomenon of latent meta-language rhetoric refers to the existence of latent meta-language operation in rhetorical activities,which can be analyzed and described from the three levels of speech,semantics and grammar.The symbols on which the construction of meta-linguistic equivalence propositions in speech-layer latent meta-language rhetoric depends are speech;semantic layer latent meta-language rhetoric operates through the potential meta-language,establishing meta-linguistic equivalence propositions between different meanings,and the equivalence between the original semantics of things and the updated semantics can be described by semantic analysis;the latent meta-language rhetoric of the grammar layer is to activate the receiver’s discourse meta-language function by means of the destruction of the linear combination rules of the language,the continuous repetition of sentences,etc.Re-establish equivalence with the original semantics or produce new semantics.Finally,the rhetorical effects and rhetorical principles of metalinguistic rhetoric are discussed under the perspective of the "four worlds" theory and zero degree deviation theory.Metalinguistic rhetoric deviates from the conventional use of language through a series of meta-linguistic means to achieve rhetorical purposes,and on the basis of zero degrees,the deviation of metalinguistic rhetoric can be divided into positive deviation and negative deviation,positive deviation is a positive rhetorical effect,and negative deviation is a negative rhetorical effect.Contextuality is an important principle of metalinguistic rhetoric,and the individual’s cognitive experience changes with the context,so the positive and negative deviations of metalinguistic rhetoric can be transformed into each other in a specific context.Negative deviations from metalinguistic rhetoric can be converted into positive deviations,and positive deviations can also be converted into negative deviations.Metalinguistic rhetoric studies rhetorical phenomena from the perspective of meta-languages,focusing on the linguistic principles of analyzing the emergence of rhetorical phenomena.This paper clarifies the definition of meta-linguistic rhetorical phenomena,defines its research objects and analyzes and describes meta-linguistic rhetorical examples not only has significance for rhetoric,but also has certain value for meta-language research.The study of meta-linguistic rhetorical phenomena can expand the research horizon of rhetoric and remind us to pay attention to the linguistic principles of rhetorical phenomena while paying attention to the effects of rhetoric.
