The source text of this report is a historical novel for children named Grandpa’s Mountain.This book was written by Carolyn Reeder,who was an American writer famous for children’s literature.Although this book belongs to children’s literature,it is suitable for people from all age groups.The translator’s main purpose of translating this book is to let people learn more about foreign literature and improve the understanding of different culture.In the theoretical level,the translator will explore the application of Relevance Theory in translation.In the practical level,the translation will help the readers understand this book.As for the stylistic features of children’s literature,its language is vivid and concrete.Most of the words and sentences are simple.There are few difficult sentences in this book.Meanwhile,compound sentences are common in the text,which is worth to be discussed.While translating this kind of book,the translator should stand in the shoes of children.However,due to the differences between English and Chinese,the translator is faced with many difficulties in translation.First,how to keep the original style of the source text.Second,the sentence structure of the source language is hard to convert into the target language.Especially the compound sentences.Third,some words in English are impossible to translated into Chinese.Under the guidance of the Relevance Theory,the translator will analyze these problems in three levels,the lexical level,the sentence level and rhetorical level,trying to use proper translation strategies and skills to solve these problems.The translator uses literal translation,conversion and omission to translate the source text.
