The Effect Of Trait Procrastination On Problematic Short-Video Browsing

With the rapid development of the Internet,the forms of online entertainment are becoming more and more abundant.In recent years,short-video media has developed vigorously,and related research has gradually become one of the new research directions of network psychology.Studies have shown that personality is an important influencing factor in the problematic use of short-video.This study focused on the relationship between Problematic Short-Video Browsing and trait procrastination,which is one of the personalities.Studies have shown that the relationship between procrastination and problematic use of the Internet is influenced by factors such as time management and mood.Therefore,this study hypothesizes that the trait procrastination has an impact on the problematic browsing behavior of short-video,and that the individual’s time management factors and emotional factors play a mediating role in the relationship between the two.Accordingly,a chain mediation model of procrastination to predict the Problematic Short-Video Browsing through time efficacy and negative affect is proposed.The specific study design and conclusions are as follows:The pre-study adapted the scale of the Problematic Short-Video Browsing.Drew on the Internet addiction scale compiled by Young,and finally adapted it into a Problematic ShortVideo Browsing scale containing three dimensions(inefficiency,interpersonal avoidance,and obsessive browsing),with a total of 10 questions.The formal study took the frequency of individual browsing short-video as the control variable,and used the scales to test twice.For the first time,301 college students were tested by using the General Procrastination Scale and the Problematic Short-Video Browsing Scale,with 290 valid questionnaires,exploring the predictive effect of trait procrastination on Problematic Short-Video Browsing,and the second time 530 participants were tested by using the General Procrastination Scale,the Problematic Short-Video Browsing Scale,the Time Efficacy Scale and the Negative Affect Scale,with 491 valid questionnaires,exploring the chain mediating role of time efficacy and negative affect.The results showed that:(1)Trait procrastination not only has a direct effect on Problematic Short-Video Browsing,but also indirectly predicts Problematic Short-Video Browsing through the chain mediation effect of time efficacy and negative affect.(2)Trait procrastination significantly predict the problematic browsing behavior of short-videos in the two dimensions of inefficiency and interpersonal avoidance through time efficacy,but cannot predict the obsessive browsing dimension through the mediating role of time efficacy.(3)Trait procrastination significantly predict the Problematic Short-Video Browsing in all three dimensions(inefficiency,interpersonal avoidance,and obsessive browsing)through negative affect.(4)Trait procrastination significantly predict the two dimensions of inefficiency and interpersonal avoidance through the chain mediating of time efficiency and negative effect,but cannot predict the obsessive browsing dimension through the chain mediating of time efficiency and negative effect.
