Listening is one of the most important language skills in foreign language learning,and it is also a necessary part of language input for junior high school students.In English skills,listening and speaking come before reading and writing,and listening is the basis of speaking.With the rapid development of the Internet and the strong support of national policies,the combination of online and offline teaching methods has become a new way of learning.Teaching activities through the Internet platform have also become the development trend of modern education.This has brought us both new opportunities and new challenges.For English teaching,online teaching has more advantages.Online teaching can help teachers and students save time,save human resources and improve efficiency.At the same time,online teaching can also provide more learning opportunities.However,online listening teaching also faces some difficulties in both time and space.Without the presence of teachers,students cannot feel the English environment and perceive the cultural characteristics of the language,so it is difficult to achieve a good learning effect.Situational teaching method is visual and intuitive,and its core component is to create an authentic language atmosphere for students.Situational teaching method includes a variety of teaching methods such as simulated acting,listening and reading to each other,looking at pictures and speaking,and simulated acting.This paper uses traditional listening teaching as the basis,combined with the relevant theories of contextual teaching method,and uses specific research methods such as literature research method,questionnaire survey method and experimental research method to investigate the specific application and effect of contextual teaching in junior high school English listening teaching.The study will analyse and discuss the following two questions:(1)What effect does the application of Situational teaching method in junior high school English listening online teaching have on students’ interest in learning English?(2)In English listening online teaching in junior high school,is the application of Situational teaching method good for the improvement of students’ English listening level? Does it have an impact on all students at different score performance levels?The participants of the study were 80 students from two classes led by the same teacher in the third year of junior high school in Hefei.The study first surveyed the 80 students who participated in the online teaching through questionnaire method,and then compared the performance of the students in the two classes before and after different modes of listening teaching,and conducted a difference analysis before and after the experiment respectively.The results of the study shows that in the junior high school English listening online listening classroom,Students’ interest in learning English improved in different dimensions in the experimental class.Students’ listening skills also improved significantly compared to the control class.The progress of the intermediate and top students was more obvious,while the progress of the struggling students was much smaller.This shows that the appropriate use of the contextual approach not only helps to increase students’ interest in English listening,but also improves the English listening skills of junior high school students.Therefore,the use of Situational Teaching Method can produce positive results.In addition,this paper also explores the use of Situational Teaching Method in the listening online teaching of junior high school English classrooms and makes some suggestions.Although there are still shortcomings and limitations,the author hopes that this experimental study will serve as a reference for future English listening teaching at junior high school level,and is expected to provide relevant theoretical references for the teacher community and reduce the teachers’ burden.
