The fundamental purpose of film exchange is to promote foreign cultural exchange, learn from the experience of film art of other countries, and at the same time,it is also an effective way to promote China’s films. As a characteristic of film exchange, international exchange can reflect the national spirit and culture in a more direct way,and is an artistic and visual way to promote mutual understanding between people of different countries.During the twenty years between China’s reform and opening up and its accession to the WTO(1978-2000),Chinese cinema was in a period of recovery and prosperity, and Chinese and Japanese cinema had close contact and interaction during this special period, and the film exchange between the two countries played a large role in the progress of Chinese cinema. The film exchange between China and Japan(1978-2000)has profound historical reference value for the current film exchange between China and Japan and between China and other countries.1978,under the two initiatives of China’s reform and opening-up policy and the signing of the Sino-Japanese Friendship Treaty with Japan, the film exchange between China and Japan resumed and became frequent. On the one hand,Chinese films learned advanced film shooting techniques and film audio-visual language skills from Japanese films, which satisfied the spiritual and cultural needs of Chinese audiences and promoted the modernization of Chinese films. On the other hand,Chinese films are also exported to Japan, using the Japanese film market as a window to showcase Chinese films to the world and reflect the progress of social development. This paper is a summary of historical materials based on the mutual screening of Chinese and Japanese films, supplemented by the interactive cooperation between Chinese and Japanese films.First,it compares the reality of film screening with the background of China-Japan film development and mutual introduction of films, analyzes the reasons for the historical phenomenon of film content and film audiovisual language, and discusses the influence and significance of Japanese films on Chinese film development.Secondly,it compares other exchanges and interactions between Chinese and Japanese films, and summarizes the development process of Sino-Japanese film exchanges. Finally, through the previous combing, the characteristics and phenomena of Sino-Japanese film exchange as a whole are summarized, and the shortcomings and limitations of this study are summarized.Based on the analysis of the reasons to learn from history, rationalization suggestions are made.Through reviewing and sorting out the history of Sino-Japanese film exchanges,it is clear that Sino-Japanese film exchanges have enriched the Chinese film market, actively disseminated Chinese culture and promoted Chinese films to go global, while Sino-Japanese film cooperation has driven the development of East Asian films. However, there are still problems in China-Japan film exchange, such as the low number of Chinese films exported to Japan, the single channel of Chinese film exchange and dissemination, and the low frequency of multi-dimensional film exchange activities, which require the creation of films combining Chinese stories with film industry aesthetics, the broadening of Chinese film dissemination channels, the creation of regional platforms, and the development of multi-genre exchanges.
