This translation practice report is based on the C-E translation practice of the Records of Chinese Famous Tea: Henan Volume(excerpt).Records of Chinese Famous Tea is co-edited by Wang Zhenheng and Wang Guangzhi and published by China Agriculture press.Through searching, the author confirms that this book is translated into English for the first time. The source text belongs to the informative text, which is divided into 21 volumes according to geographical region. Each volume is provided detailed information on the types, production areas, resources, origins, productions, marketing of the regional famous tea as well as the famous tea culture. The reason for selecting the Records of Chinese Famous Tea as source text for translation is that it will enable more people to learn about the types, history, growing environment, harvesting and production process and tea culture of Xinyang tea.In addition,it can make more people yearn for the beautiful scenery of tea garden, and promote the development of tourism economy in Xinyang tea townships.Based on Toury’s theory of Translation norms, the author discusses the translation strategies of translating Chinese informative text into English.Toury believes that norms are social and cultural constraints on translation behaviour.Translation norms theory, the theoretical core of his research,is divided into three levels: Preliminary norms,Initial norms and Operational norms. The author found that: Preliminary norms influence the author’s overall choice of source texts. In order to enhance cultural confidence, the author chooses to translate tea text.Initial norms influence the author’s choice of translation strategies. In order to better spread Chinese culture, the author strives to balance “adequacy”and “acceptability”.Under the guidance of Toury’s theory of translation norms, the author mainly adopts the literal translation and literal translation with annotation in the translation of dynastic names and place names. In the translation of four-character words and culture-loaded words, the author mainly adopts free translation and part-of-speech conversion. In the translation of ancient poetry, the author mainly adopts domestication strategy to split and recombine the poetry.Operational norms influence the author’s addition and segmentation of paragraphs and chapters at the macro level, and the ways of dealing with sentences and words at the micro level. In this translation practice report, the translator does case analysis to explore the translation strategies of informational texts. At the same time, the author tries to explore the practicality of Toury’s norms theory.
