With the continuous advancement of “the Belt and Road Initiative” and the publication of Guidelines for the Course Construction for Ideological and Political Education in Colleges and Universities and other documents,the teaching reform on English discipline has entered a new stage.As a result,more and more English teachers in China are working on cultivating students’ ability to tell Chinese stories in English and disseminate Chinese culture.Under the circumstances,integrating Chinese culture into college English teaching has become the focus of the recent reform of ideological and political education in English courses.It has also won the attention of teachers and researchers.This study selects one English elective course as the research object.The author collects a large amount of first-hand data by screen-recording the online lessons during the epidemic,with the aid of questionnaires and various forms of interviews.The study focuses on observing the integration of Chinese culture in the teaching practice of a whole semester.The study describes the activity system of integration of Chinese culture into English teaching in this class in terms of its subject,object,tools,community,rules and division of labor.The present study attempts to explore the way and effects of college English teacher’s integration of Chinese culture into English teaching.The results of case study indicate:(1)The integration of Chinese culture in this course is a harmonious system composed of multiple elements.The teacher helps students give full play to their subjective initiative,and achieve the goal of learning Chinese culture with the help of a variety of effective tools(teaching materials,learning tasks and assignments)and reasonable rules and division of labor.(2)The teacher designs the whole teaching process under the guidance of backward approach and selects effective tools according to learning goals and the needs of students.(3)The integration of Chinese culture into English teaching by the teacher has enhanced students’ comprehension of Chinese culture and improved their ability to disseminate Chinese culture in English.(4)In this course,students hold positive attitudes towards the integration of Chinese culture into English teaching and students’ interest in Chinese culture and English expressions of Chinese culture has been enhanced.Besides,students’ cultural confidence has been enhanced to a certain extent.This study attempts to systematically discuss the integration of Chinese culture into English teaching practice,and provides some helpful reference for the reform of ideological and political teaching in English courses.
