Study On The Writings Of Birds,Animals,Herbs And Trees In Song Dynasty

Birds,animals,grasses,trees,insects,fishes and other creatures were one of the important elements in ancient Chinese literature,but there were few documents dedicated to the dissemination of related knowledge before the Song Dynasty,and it was not until the Song Dynasty that the number of writings on birds,animals,grasses and trees began to increase significantly.Therefore,based on the existing academic research,this paper attempts to explore the types of writings on birds,animals,herbs and trees in the Song Dynasty and the reasons for the significant increase in the number of writings on birds,animals,herbs and trees in the Song Dynasty.The main content of the paper can be divided into the following three parts:Part I: The reasons for the emergence of bird,animal,herb and wood writings in the Song Dynasty are analyzed from four aspects: economic factors,political factors,technical factors,and social customs,and two characteristics of bird,animal,herb and wood literature are summarized.Firstly,through a comprehensive analysis of the land policy,the development of agriculture,commodity economy and handicraft industry,the state policy of "emphasizing literature and suppressing martial arts",the book engraving technology such as papermaking and printing,and the prevailing culture of gardening and petting,we find that the emergence of bird,animal,herb and wood writings in the Song Dynasty was the result of the combined effect of various favorable factors.The second is a comprehensive analysis of the Song dynasty’s bird,animal,and grass writings.Secondly,by analyzing and summarizing the correlation between the era and place of origin of the authors of Song Dynasty birds,animals,herbs and trees and their works,we believe that the different social environments of the two Song dynasties had some influence on the writing style of such literature.Part II: Divides Song dynasty writings on birds,animals,herbs and trees into three parts:monographs on flora and fauna,regional works on flora and fauna,and "Tongzhi-Insects,Herbs and Trees",briefly introduces the authors and contents of each document,and discusses the reasons for Zheng Qiao’s creation of "Tongzhi-Insects,Herbs and Trees" and the strengths and weaknesses of "Tongzhi-Insects,Herbs and Trees".Part III: Firstly,by sorting out the contents of Song dynasty birds,animals,herbs and trees,we summarize the four reasons why Song literati wrote about birds,animals,herbs and trees: to promote the fame of plants and animals,to record the scenery of a place,to gain the recognition of others,and to express their aspirations.Secondly,we discuss the value of Song dynasty bird,animal,herb and wood literature on bibliography,agricultural research,climate research,etc.,because bird,animal,herb and wood literature is often quoted in large quantities,some of which are lost in the process of transmission,and therefore have anonymous value,and because it also preserves a large number of ancient material,so it also has a certain value for the study of agriculture and climate in ancient China.
