A Study Of Ye Zhao Yan’s Writing Of Nanjing In The Republic Of China

Ye Zhaoyan is an authentic Nanjing writer,and "Nanjing" is also a key word throughout his literary creation.Among the Nanjing writing of Ye Zhaoyan’s novels,the one that can best reflect the regional characteristics of Nanjing is his writing about Nanjing in the Republic of China.Based on the results of previous works,this paper conducts an in-depth study of Ye Zhaoyan’s writing on Nanjing in the Republic of China,in an attempt to reveal the uniqueness of his writing on Nanjing and its value and significance.Chapter one is the spatial construction of Nanjing during the Republic of China period.It analyzes from three dimensions:the transformation of space and Nanjing’s historical transformation,the juxtaposition and collision of public and private spaces,and the realistic depiction and metaphorical function of urban space.Firstly,from the perspective of spatial transformation,Ye Zhaoyan wrote about the historical transformation of Nanjing during the Republic of China period.Secondly,Ye Zhaoyan juxtaposed the public and private spaces of Nanjing and made them collide,revealing the complex relationship between urban space and the times.Finally,Ye Zhaoyan’s depiction of urban space is both realistic,able to show a true Nanjing during the Republic of China period,and has metaphorical function,playing a role in narrative.Chapter two is the characterization of people during the Republic of China period in Nanjing.It analyzes from three aspects : the homology between city and people,the characteristics and universality of Nanjing people,and the idealization of Nanjing people.In the characterization of people in Nanjing during the Republic of China period,Ye Zhaoyan consciously combines them with the fate and temperament of the city itself,forming a homologous relationship between characters and the city.In the description of Nanjing people’s personality,Ye Zhaoyan not only reveals the uniqueness of Nanjing people’s personality,but also connects it with the more universal national character.In addition,Ye Zhaoyan’s characterization of people in Nanjing during the Republic of China period also has an idealistic dimension,which can be seen from the intellectual image he portrays.Chapter three is the historical retelling of Nanjing during the Republic of China period.It analyzes from three aspects:the historical form outside the "mainstream," the historical concept different from tradition,and the poetic strategy of the interplay between reality and fiction.In terms of historical form,Ye Zhaoyan intentionally keeps a distance from the mainstream historical narrative and excavates more aspects of Nanjing’s history during the Republic of China period.In terms of historical concept,Ye Zhaoyan’s historical concept is based on the people and individuals.In terms of narrative strategy,Ye Zhaoyan blends reality and fiction to form a unique historical narrative.Chapter four is the value and significance of Ye Zhaoyan’s writing on Nanjing during the Republic of China period.It mainly discusses from two perspectives :literary history and cultural significance.From the vertical perspective of literary history,Nanjing literature has a unique nostalgic tradition,and Ye Zhaoyan’s writing on Nanjing during the Republic of China period is the continuation and development of this Nanjing literary tradition.From the horizontal perspective of the times,Ye Zhaoyan’s writing on Nanjing during the Republic of China period is closely related to the nostalgia of the 1990 s.In his Nanjing nostalgia,Ye Zhaoyan embodies the humanistic spirit of intellectuals.The concluding section summarizes and discusses Ye Zhaoyan’s writing on Nanjing in the Republic of China.In writing about Nanjing in the Republic of China,Ye Zhaoyan demonstrates his familiarity with the history and humanity of Nanjing,and is able to grasp the spiritual qualities of the city and fuse them with his own creative personality to create a literary text with great regional characteristics and personal style.It can be said that Ye Zhaoyan’s writing on Nanjing in the Republic of China provides a successful example of literary writing on the city,and has a significance that cannot be ignored.
