| Achille-Claude Debussy(1862-1918)is regarded as one of the most outstanding representatives of Impressionist music,and his musical style is of epoch-making significance in the history of Western music.Influenced by 19 th century Impressionist painting and Symbolist literature,he incorporated Impressionist artistic techniques into his piano compositions,pursuing the liberation of traditional tonalities and adopting novel harmonic writing techniques,which gave his music its light and colorful atmosphere and rich sound.He is one of the greatest composers of the 20 th century and has been called the "father of modern music",and his colorful and original impressionistic style is reflected in his early compositions.The Meditation is a classic early Debussy piano miniature,his first influential work for solo piano.Although the work does not employ many innovative techniques or complex difficulties,its acoustics are uniquely impressionistic.In this paper,we will discuss in detail the background of Debussy’s early piano work Meditation,its impressionistic character and the performance interpretation of the work from the perspective of a researcher and performer.It is hoped that this theoretical study will lead to a better understanding of Debussy’s creative conception and open a window for a better understanding of impressionist music. |
