This article takes the calendar change in Japan as a starting point for research. While clarifying the background of cultural instability and conflict,it analyzes the impact of the Meiji calendar change on Japanese society and culture through folk response and action logic. The full thesis was divided into three chapters. The introduction chapter is mainly focus to sorts out the prior research in China and Japan countries recent years. The first chapter mainly introduces the process of Meiji calendar change.Summarize the history of calendar changes in Japan as a whole, summarize the calendar practice in Japan before the Meiji calendar change, describe the promulgation process of the Meiji new calendar in detail, clarify the content and evolution of the calendar, and identify the differences between the new calendar and the old calendar. The second chapter explains the conflicts and adjustments during the Meiji calendar change period.Meiji calendar change is a conflict between the new calendar and the old calendar. In the face of the differences between the new calendar and the old calendar, the government has taken some measures to adjust for this difference. This section intends to observe the effects of the Meiji government’s measures after their promulgation through subsequent changes. The third chapter focuses on the reaction of Japanese people to the Meiji calendar change. The measures taken by the Japanese people to change the Meiji calendar have two tendencies:resistance and acceptance, either because of historical traditions, culture, religion, political patriotism, etc.,or because they conform to cultural traditions and belong to the beneficiary class, and are accepted and promoted. The Meiji New Calendar finally formed a relatively stable calendar system. In this process,Japanese people have made efforts to address the content that was not originally accepted, and the Japanese government has also revised the parts that cannot be implemented. This section intends to track the further development and trend of the Meiji calendar.Aparting from summarizing the full thesis in the concluding chapter, the author also proposes important issues that need to be further clarified about the mechanism of Japanese cultural selection.Through in-depth exploration of this issue,we can further trace the ideological path conducive to thinking about the development of Japan’s modernization.
