The well-known myth of Xi Wang Mu has always been a subject of research and has gained significant attention.In 2014,the myth of Xi Wang Mu in Tianchi,Xinjiang,was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage,expanding the influence of this myth.Tianchi Scenic Area in Fukang City,Xinjiang,has a deep-rooted popular belief in the myth of Xi Wang Mu.Based on the cultural symbols of China,the myth of Xi Wang Mu carries the collective memory of the Chinese nation,promoting cultural awareness and reflection,and serving as a carrier of the Chinese national identity.These mythological stories have been passed down from generation to generation,forming the spirit and genetic makeup of our nation.At the same time,as a national-level intangible cultural heritage and an important cultural resource of Tianchi Scenic Area in Xinjiang,the myth of Xi Wang Mu has been fully utilized in the development of cultural tourism.It is used to connect the real landscape with the mythical legends.The scenic area retells the myth of Xi Wang Mu through landscape narration,comprehensive tourism and cultural development,and the inclusion of mythological references in tour guides’ scripts.This presents the transmission forms and contemporary performances of the myth of Xi Wang Mu.By examining and summarizing the characteristics of the myth of Xi Wang Mu and the cultural connotations behind it,analyzing the landscape reconstruction and cultural reconfiguration phenomena based on Xi Wang Mu West as a cultural symbol in Tianchi Scenic Area in Xinjiang,it carries certain cultural significance in exploring the meaning and value of traditional Chinese culture in the present.Firstly,from a historical perspective,the historical origins and evolution of the myth of Xi Wang Mu in Tianchi,Xinjiang are examined.Through the study of local historical documents,oral traditions,ritual festivals,and combining historical writings with cultural memory,the true historical context and complete cultural forms of the myth of Xi Wang Mu in specific time and space are restored,revealing the dynamic dissemination process of Xi Wang Mu culture.Secondly,in the context of reality,the reconstruction of the myth of Xi Wang Mu is explored,focusing on the role of cultural memory carriers such as oral stories from various ethnic groups,historical texts,ritual festivals,architectural sculptures,and media in the preservation,inheritance,transformation,and awakening of cultural traditions.Based on this analysis,the positive effects of cultural memory reconstruction on the establishment of local multi-ethnic identity,group emotional connections,and bridging cognitive differences are identified.This forms the contemporary cultural connotations and symbolic significance of the myth of Xi Wang Mu in the present context.Lastly,drawing on existing research on the myth of Xi Wang Mu and incorporating relevant theoretical perspectives,the retelling and appropriation of the myth of Xi Wang Mu in Tianchi,Xinjiang are analyzed.By conducting studies on historical texts,archaeological evidence,and field investigations,relevant information about the myth of Xi Wang Mu is enriched.Through vertical and horizontal analysis and comparison,based on the essence of mythology,academic discussions are conducted,presenting the authentic and vibrant existence of the myth of Xi Wang Mu in Fukang City,Xinjiang.By showcasing the transmission forms,historical and cultural values,and contemporary performances of the myth of Xi Wang Mu,it explores its significance and value for present-day social development and the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture,thereby possessing diverse social and cultural significance.
