| Books are the crystallization of human civilization and the major carrier for recording history.With the rapid development of technology and economy,traditional paper books are facing the great challenge from e-books.E-books are favoured by young people because they have more storage but take lower cost and less space.Additionally,e-books are environmentally friendly,easy to both read and carry.They also possess audiovisual functions and can be fast retrieved.However,in the design of either traditional paper books or digital-based e-books,designers should pay more attention to the readers and care about their needs.They are supposed to put emphasis on the experience brought by sensory communication achieved through five senses including vision,touch,hearing,smell and taste.The artistic concept "taste"mentioned in this thesis is a distillation of comprehensive and diversified perceptions,as well as the historical and cultural connotations.As a special aesthetic form,it enables people to understand the information conveyed in books better,thus improving the efficiency and effectiveness of reading.This thesis firstly provides the elaboration of the concept of "taste" in the current historical context.Its physical,psychological and cultural forms of expression are also expatiated,so as to bespeak the unique advantages of "taste".The mental association"taste" creates and its aesthetic characteristics are also discussed.Next,this thesis offers an chronological overview of the application of "taste" in book design,analyzing by referring to specific cases the value of "taste" in modern book design as an impetus to the development of the industry.The application of "taste" in modern book design is explained and interpreted through several perspectives including new technology,new material and new artistic concepts.The strength and drawbacks of modern book design are explored in depth,as well as how to make full use of "taste"to improve modern book design in terms of enhancing readers’ reading experience and interest.Various forms of modern book design are specified to provide references for future designers.This study of "taste" is conducted by analyzing and summarizing the content mentioned above. |
