Throughout the history of art,it can be found that art in the primitive period was planar. With the development of science and technology, artists gradually pursued three-dimensional space on the screen under the influence of perspective. However, with the improvement of people’s understanding, some artists began to pursue personalized painting language, and modern painting in the early 20 th century returned to the pursuit of planarization. The planarized space in modern painting compresses the depth of the screen and reduces the amount of information in the display space of the screen. However, the way of expressing the space has become more free, and artists can arrange the screen in a unique spatial representation way according to their own understanding of the object image. The dots, lines, and surfaces in the screen all symbolize the existence of a certain space,so it is inevitable for artists to explore and innovate the way they express space. This article analyzes the works of several Chinese and foreign artists to understand the specific application of planarized spatial expression in the screen.Experience the spatial expression of planarization, using the relationship between the map and the ground, the proportion of volume, the overlap of occlusion, deformation and dislocation, the contrast between cold and warm colors, the contrast between light and dark, and the texture of materials.Under the influence of visual perception, there are shallow, deep,or infinite imaginary spatial changes. In creative practice, through formal language such as composition, modeling, color, and texture materials,we explore the spatial expression of planar patterns, combining what we have thought and learned, and strive to find our own way of schematic expression, and better solve the problem of schema processing and spatial expression in early paintings. Finally, the author’s harvest and reflection on a series of works based on the creation of old cities and ancient alleys, using the way ink and wash in Chinese painting to darken the expressive space to solve the problem of a single form of the screen, making a breakthrough in the expressive style of the work and laying a good foundation for future creation.
