Sugar sweetened beverages(SSBs),as one of the main sources of added sugar intake, have adverse effects on individual physiology and psychology.Adolescents,as the main group of sugary drinks consumption,long-term or habitual consumption of sugary drinks may lead to abnormal reward system.Junior middle school students are in the early stage of teenager’s development, which is the initial stage of the development of brain reward system and the formation of autonomous eating habits.Taking junior school students as the research object, this study discussed the current situation of adolescent’s sugar-sweetened beverages consumption and its relationship with reward, and used ERP technology with good time resolution to explore the impact of habitual sugar-sweetened beverages intake on adolescent’s reward processing from two independent and related stages of reward anticipation and outcome appraisal. In Study 1,we investigated the status and influencing factors of junior school students’ sugar-sweetened beverages consumption, and explored the relationship between beverages consumption frequency and reward.512 junior school students in Kaifeng City were investigated by using SSBs consumption frequency questionnaire, behavior inhibition / activation scale and temporal experience of pleasure scale. The results showed that the consumption behavior of SSBs among adolescents was relatively common, and gender and family economic status affected drinking behavior.Boys drank significantly more sugary tea, carbonated drinks and functional drinks than girls;adolescents with average family economic status drink less drinks than adolescents with good family economic status. In addition, the frequency of intake of SSBs had a significant positive prediction effect on fun seeking and anticipatory pleasure. The more frequent intake of SSBs,the higher individual fun seeking and anticipatory pleasure. In Study 2,we used monetary incentntive delay task(MID)through a 2(SSBs intake: high, low)× 3(cue types: reward expectation cue, punishment expectation cue and neutral cue)mixed experimental design was used to compare the differences in MID between high and low sugar-sweetened beverage intake adolescents, and to explored the EEG characteristics of the effect of habitual SSBs intake on reward anticipation of adolescents. The behavioral results showed that there was no significant difference in response time and accuracy between two groups;the EEG results showed that the Cue-P3 amplitude induced by reward expectation cue in high SSBs intake group was significantly greater than low SSBs intake group, and the high SSBs intake group induced a greater SPN amplitude. In Study 3,we used a door task, through 2(SSBs intake: high, low)× 2(feedback type: win, lose)mixed experimental design to compare the differences of high and low sugar-sweetened beverages intake in door tasks, and to explore the EEG characteristics of habitual SSBs intake on the outcome appraisal of adolescents. The EEG results showed that high SSBs intake adolescents induced smaller Rew P amplitude than low SSBs adolescents, and there was no significant difference in FB-P3 induced by high SSBs intake under the two different feedbacks. The following conclusions are obtained through three studies:First, the consumption frequency of SSBs among adolescents tends to be poor, gender and family economic status affect the behavior who often drink sugar-sweetened beverages. The frequency of sugary drinks intake had a significant positive prediction effect on adolescent’s fun seeking and anticipatory pleasure.Second, the habitual intake of SSBs affects the processing of reward anticipation of adolescents.Adolescents with high intake of SSBs invested more attention resources and respond more to reward expectation cues.Third, the habitual intake of SSBs affects the outcome appraisal of adolescents.High SSBs intake adolescents were less sensitive to reward results, and there was no significant difference in attention resources between the two feedback results in the high SSBs intake.Fourth, the effects of habitual intake of SSBs on reward processing of adolescents are separated. In the reward anticipation stage, high SSBs intake adolescents showed an increased desire for reward; In the outcome appraisal stage, high SSBs intake adolescents showed a decrease in consummatory after reward.
