In recent years, the government has strongly promoted physical exercise among university students and there has been a lot of research on physical activity in academia, issuing many important circulars and introducing policies in order to encourage, support and supervise physical exercise among university students.Nowadays, sensation seeking as an antecedent variable of high-risk sports has been studied by scholars at home and abroad, providing a new direction for sports.Domestic research on sensation seeking is relatively recent, with most studies using athletes or extreme athletes as subjects and finding a relationship between sensation seeking and high-risk sports, such as skydiving, diving and gliding. However, given the low access and high barriers to high-risk sports for the average university students,it is essential to explore the mechanisms underlying the relationship between sensation seeking and low-risk physical activity. In addition, intentional self-regulation has only been studied in the past ten years. Some studies have found that intentional self-regulation plays a mediating role between physical exercise and positive personality traits.Whether intentional self-regulation plays a role in physical exercise and negative personality traits and let it develop benignly or not,it is necessary to further verify on the basis of predecessors. At present,my country attaches great importance to sports. Therefore, based on the existing research, this study explores the relationship between sensory seeking and physical exercise, and further examines the role of intentional self-regulation and stress in the relationship. This study used a questionnaire method to distribute questionnaires to a group of university students in Henan Province, and a total of 968 valid questionnaires were screened. The measurement instruments used were the Sensation Seeking Scale, the Physical Activity Rating Scale, the Intentional Self-Regulation Scale, and the short-form version of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales(DASS-21).SPSS 24.0 was used for data processing and analysis and the results were as follows.(1)Sensation seeking has a significant positive predictive effect on physical activity.(2)Intentional self-regulation partially has mediate relationship between sensation seeking and physical exercise.(3)Stress positively mediated the relationship between sensation seeking and intentional self-regulation,i.e.the higher the stress, the stronger the relationship between sensation seeking and intentional self-regulation.(4)The four variables of sensation seeking, physical exercise, intentional self-regulation and stress form a mediating model with a moderating effect in the first half of the mediating pathway. Therefore,it is concluded that sensation seeking influences physical activity through intentional self-regulation and stress enhances the effect of sensation seeking on physical activity in university students. The study enriches the field of exercise psychology, and at the same time provides a theoretical basis for promoting physical exercise and improving the mental health of university students.
