In the current era of rapid technological development, the Internet has spread to all corners of the world, and mobile phones have been increasingly integrated into the daily work of contemporary people. The Internet brings convenience to people, but also causes certain negative effects. At present, the problem of non-adaptive use of social networks by college students is particularly prominent. How to prevent and reasonably control the improper use of the Internet by college students is an important task of the education department.Research on the risk factors and internal mechanisms of college students’ use of social networking sites will help to better prevent the problematic use of social networking sites and scientifically control them.According to previous studies on Internet addiction and mobile phone dependence, the lack of psychological needs and non-adaptive cognition have predictive effects on such problematic social network use behaviors. Therefore, this study uses self-determination theory and cognitive-behavioral model. As a theoretical basis,it explores the factors that affect the use of problematic social networking sites, namely interpersonal adaptation, fear of missing out,and dispositional optimism. The research objects selected for this study are college students from five universities in Henan Province, and a mature scale suitable for local culture was used for data collection.A total of 1,000 questionnaires were distributed and 960 were returned. The invalid ones were excluded, and the remaining930 valid questionnaires, the effective rate is 93%.Then use statistical software SPSS21.0,AMOS23.0 for data analysis.Research result:(1)The interpersonal adaptation of college students has significant differences in demographic variables(grade, gender, and origin);the fear of missing out has significant differences in grades and majors;the use of problematic social networks has significant differences in grades;dispositional optimism has significant differences in gender and grade.(2)College students’ interpersonal adaptation can significantly and negatively predict problematic social network use.(3)Fear of missing out plays a partial mediating role between interpersonal adaptation and problematic social network use in college students.Specifically, interpersonal adaptation can not only directly affect problematic social network use,but also affect problematic social network use through fear of missing out.(4)Dispositional optimism moderated the mediating effect of fear of missing out.Specifically, dispositional optimism moderated the first half of the mediation process, and the degree of fear of missing out in low dispositional optimists was more affected by interpersonal adaptation than in high dispositional optimists. The results show that college students’ interpersonal adaptation can not only directly affect the use of problematic social networks, but also affect the use of problematic social networks through the mediating effect of fear of missing out.At the same time,in groups with lower levels of dispositional optimism, the individual’s interpersonal adaptability has a greater impact on the fear of missing out.In addition, through this conclusion, this study has obtained some educational inspirations, and put forward some suggestions to reduce the problematic use of social networks among college students.
