The author of this thesis takes the style and technique of Franz Liszt’s piano transcription as the focus of research,analyzing his famous transcription on Schubert’s Der Wanderer as an example.Der Wanderer was adapted from the lied of the same title by Franz Schubert from the Romantic period.Schubert composed more than lieder in his lifetime,and his adopted lyrics from many great writers and poets such as Goethe,Heine,Schiller,and many other.As a result,his lieder compositions were not only very closely related to literature,but also raised the role of piano part.In Schubert’s lieder,piano part is no longer a simple accompaniment,but also an important way for him to express his artistic contexts and expressions,injecting new insights into lieder.In Schubert’s composition,piano part has become an essential part,is an effective way to create the atmosphere and to express the context.Piano part has become one of cores of lieder.In this these,the author surveys Liszt’s background as a pianist and composer,emphasizing his profound influence on piano performance and composition.Then,the author explores the general characteristics of Liszt’s piano transcription,including the transcription techniques on the original work,the expansion of musical form,and the uniqueness of personal expression.Next,the author provides a detailed analysis of Liszt’s transcription style and techniques displayed in the work Der Wanderer.This includes discussions on the reconstruction of melody and harmony,the application of piano techniques,and the presentation of musical expression.Finally,the author summarizes the general characteristics of Liszt’s piano transcriptions and emphasizes his innovative contributions to piano performance and composition.The research in this thesis is of great significance for understanding Liszt’s musical creation,transcription,and his elevation in the art of piano performance.
