Intercultural English teaching is a foreign language teaching aimed at cultivating intercultural communicative competence.It is increasingly important in the context of the reform of foreign language universities,middle schools,and primary schools in the new era,and has become one of the core qualities parallel to language competence.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)issued by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China has clearly listed the important status of “cultural awareness” and“intercultural competence” and put forward corresponding requirements from various levels and perspectives,such as curriculum objectives,general objectives,learning objectives,and curriculum content.In this context,this study carries out a survey in a middle school based on intercultural sensitivity,that is,the emotional part of intercultural communicative competence.Using tools such as the Chinese-English Culture-loaded Word Questionnaire and the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale,a survey was conducted on 321 English learners of the second grade of a middle school in Hulunbeier,Inner Mongolia.The research content mainly focuses on the correlation between“intercultural sensitivity” and “acquisition of Chinese-English culture-loaded words” of middle school students.The innovation of this study is that a small Chinese-English culture-loaded mini-database of words is initially formed,and based on this,a questionnaire is formulated as one of the important research tools.The study found that the intercultural sensitivity of middle school students and the acquisition level of Chinese-English culture-loaded words need to be improved respectively,and there is a significant positive correlation between the above two.Therefore,the suggestions are as follows: At first,English teachers need to improve their intercultural English teaching ability and integrate culture-loaded words into English teaching;Secondly,the students should respond to intercultural communication activities with an open attitude and accumulate cultural knowledge as culture-loaded words through various ways to accelerate intercultural sensitivity.
