With the release of the data of the Tenth National Population Census in 2020,China’s declining fertility rate and the aging of the whole society in recent years have increasingly attracted the attention of the country and the whole society.More and more studies have shown that the long-term low fertility rate will cause political, economic, social stability, national security and other problems. In 2022,China ushered in negative population growth for the first time since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The problem is further highlighted. In the absence of successful experience in the world and the current administrative policy is not effective,it is urgent to carry out a more comprehensive and in-depth study of the fertility problem. The discussion and solution of this problem in traditional fertility studies mostly focus on the fertility will, and few of them are analyzed and discussed from the perspective of psychology from the perspective of sociology, economics and other macro perspectives. On the macro level, the population problem is the fundamental problem of national development and national continuity, but on the micro level, childbearing itself is the common choice of couples in the family. Therefore, based on the reality of China’s population problems and the lack of existing research, this study chooses social norms and fertility implementation intention as the starting point, and tries to explore the role of children’s value assessment in the process of fertility. The study is divided into two parts. The first part is an interview study.Through semi-structured interviews with 30 couples of the right age in 15 groups of child-bearing families, the interview data is processed with the help of thematic analysis, and the changes of child-bearing implementation intention of couples in child-bearing families are discussed,as well as their subjective perception of social norms and child value evaluation. The second part is related research. The research draws on the existing methods and adopts the professional psychological scale to collect data from 507 married people of the right age in four cities, including Beijing and Kunming.Through the methods of difference test, correlation analysis and intermediary test, the research examines the impact of social norms on fertility implementation intention, and whether the evaluation of children’s value plays an intermediary role, and establishes relevant models. The research draws the following conclusions:(1)The role of social norms and the evaluation of children’s value widely exist in all married families and the whole process of reproductive behavior;(2)The value of children in contemporary Chinese families has changed compared with the traditional value of children;(3)There is a significant correlation between social norms, fertility implementation intention and children’s value evaluation;(4)The evaluation of children’s value plays an intermediary role in the influence of social norms on the intention of fertility implementation.According to the research results and the discussion of the existing fertility problems, the research suggests that in the future,we can develop marriage and childbearing education to form a joint force of education;Strengthen publicity and guidance, and popularize policy adjustment;Grasp the changes of problems and optimize the current policies;Combining traditional culture and enriching the value of children, try to improve China’s population problems.
