| Since the beginning of the opening-up and reform policy in China,domestic films have gradually embarked on a journey of self-breakthrough and innovation.Although significant achievements have been made in the construction of hero images in mainstream films in recent years,there are still many shortcomings in the construction of hero images,such as the conceptualization of "greatness,brightness,and rightness" and homogenization of themes,which have become important factors restricting the development of mainstream films.At the same time,the academic research on the construction of hero images in mainstream films is not deep enough,with a short time span and insufficient systematic and comprehensive analysis.With the establishment of China’s "cultural power" and "film power" status,how to rationally construct the hero images in mainstream films has become an urgent issue for mainstream filmmakers to tackle.This study uses text analysis,comparative analysis,and inductive summary methods to examine the overview and characteristics of hero image construction in mainstream films from a global perspective of film development.It aims to address the existing difficulties in constructing heroic images and propose reasonable suggestions for improvement,and make forward-looking predictions for the future of hero image construction,providing reference and reflection for the narrative of mainstream films and the telling of Chinese stories.First,this study takes "mainstream films," "heroes," and "hero images" as the basic concepts and conducts a comprehensive investigation into the construction of hero images in mainstream films since the reform and opening-up policy and categorizes it into three stages: budding development period(1978-2000),market transformation period(2000-2009),and prosperity and innovation period(2009-today).By comparing and contrasting the heroic images in these three stages,this study investigates the influence of socio-cultural factors on narrative.Secondly,it focuses on visual and auditory language,narrative strategies,and genre construction as the main entry points,and analyzes the basic characteristics of hero images in mainstream films since the reform and opening-up policy and the efforts of filmmakers in terms of film art techniques and methods.Finally,based on the success and shortcomings of constructing heroic images in mainstream films,this study proposes appropriate countermeasures from three perspectives: "catering to the viewing needs of the times," "emotional expression follows the plot," and "learning from foreign genre experiences" to address the reality difficulties of "homogenization of themes," "thin emotional handling," and "insufficient commercialization transformation" that have existed in Chinese mainstream films for more than forty years.Drawing on the content of the first three chapters,this study predicts the future direction of the construction of heroic images in mainstream films from three perspectives: non-sexualized trends,the rise of series works,and China’s cultural trend towards the world,and verifies the rationality of these predictions with concrete real-life cases,hoping to provide new ideas for future related research.Mainstream films are the mainstay of Chinese culture and the front line of mainstream value dissemination,carrying the message of Chinese culture,and heroic storytelling is one of the most important elements in mainstream films.The recognition of hero images in films largely determines the success or failure of the entire film.Therefore,the research on the construction of hero images in mainstream films is of great significance for enhancing the audience’s identification with heroic images,promoting mainstream consciousness dissemination,and enhancing national self-confidence. |
