Collation And Research Of Ancient Shield Archaeological Data In Han And Tang Dynasties In Shaanxi And Gansu Provinces

As an important weapon in the cold weapon era,the ancient shield reflects certain information of military and social life.Through extensive collection and collation of related archaeological data,it has been found that there are a large number of physical objects and image remains of ancient shield during the Han and Tang Dynasties in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.A total of 619 physical objects of ancient shield with definite records have been collected,among which 6are wooden,the rest are pottery,with 40 images of ancient shield.Based on the above data,combined with the relevant literature and historical materials,the ancient shield of Han and Tang Dynasties in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces is systematically studied.The ancient shield originated from people’s self-protection during wartime,and its materials were mainly wood and leather.In the pre-Qin period,most shield were made of wicker wood and covered with patent leather.In addition,there was another ceremonial shield made of tin and studded with bronze shield.During the Han Dynasty,there were new changes in the shield,such as iron shield and iron shield composite weapon hook inlay.According to their plane shape,the shield seen in the Han and Tang dynasties is divided into five types,and its age and shield surface decoration are analyzed.Through the collation of the image data of ancient shield,it can be found that the image of ancient shield exists in four types of images of military operations,ceremonial travel,religious sacrifice and martial dance banquet.Therefore,it is not difficult to find that in addition to actual combat military functions,ancient shield played an important role in daily etiquette,religious sacrifice and martial dance.As the embodiment and materialization of people’s ideas under the background of The Times,the ancient shield contains people’s ideas of praying for peace and exorcising ghosts.The ancient shield developed from weapons to ceremonial equipment,and then to dance props.Its diversified functions reflected the military system and funeral etiquette at that time from a unique perspective,and gradually became a symbol of defense and protection.
