A Report On Post-editing Of The Machine Translation Of Rare Earths Science,Technology,Production And Use(Excerpt) Based On The "Comprehension,Expression And Adaptation"(CEA) Framework

Based on the CEA mode proposed by professor Li Changshuan in Beijing Foreign Studies University,this translation practice was finished under the mode of machine translation plus post edit.The source text of this report,Rare Earths Science,Technology,Production and Use(excerpt),is abbreviated as Rare Earths in the following content.As a masterpiece in rare earth industry published by Elsevier in 2015,it was brought into being by five authors with Jacques Lucas as its first worker.As a standard text in science and technology,this text systematically introduced the current rare earths industry chain from the selection of rare earths ore to the use of rare earth materials which can help workers in rare earths industry to form an exact realization on the industry and its possible development in the future.With five chapters,this report systematically introduced the process of the translation.The first chapter,task description narrated the background of the practice,authors of the source text and the source text itself,the significance of the translation and the framework of the translation practice;the second chapter included the pre-translation preparation,intranslation process and post-translation edit.The third chapter outlined the analytical framework of CEA;as the most important sector in this report,chapter four analyzed the typical cases in the translation practice;as an overview of this report,chapter five served as a summary by outlining machine translation presented in this translation practice and focus of post-edit according to the exposed problems.The original text belongs to the type of popular science textbooks in traditional industries.In practice,the author has found that machine translation has a high accuracy in terms translation,while in the face of some polysemous words with simple basic meanings,the reliability of machine translation significantly decreases.When dealing with passive meaning,machine translation has problems such as rigidity,mechanization,and low readability of the translation.These issues are the objects that translators need to focus on during post translation editing.As the machine translation can literally lift the burden on the translators,it still has shortcomings in terms of accuracy,fluency of expression,and many other aspects.Thus,post-edit is necessary for translators to conduct to ensure the exactitude and expressiveness of the translation.
