| In recent years,with the epidemic of SARS and COVID-19,plague once again entered the public’s attention.As a distinct and important type of plague,plague naturally became an unavoidable topic.The study of plague was not only the patent of scholars in the fields of medicine,history and zoology.With the intervention of literature,it not only added infinite vitality to the study of plague,but also provided many new perspectives.Plague threatened the cohesion of social bonds and demanded action on a massive scale,which inevitably involved law,and classic plague literature,such as The Decameron,A Journal of the Plague Year,The Betrothed,The Plague,and The White Snow Black Crows,featured numerous epidemic prevention regulations.For example,regulations on quarantine,funeral rites,public health policies and so on.With the intervention of legal narration,it not only explained the historical causes,creative motives and social significance of these plague literature in the theme,but also further enriched the artistic expression of this subject in the structure,and enhanced the tension between literary imagination and social reality.The function of legal narration in plague literature is significantly reflected in the thematic significance and aesthetic characteristics.The interpretation of plague literature from the legal perspective and the reflection on the ideological and cultural significance behind plague literature and the social significance conveyed by plague literature have certain enlightenment significance for the solution of people’s living predicament in the realistic context of plague.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the text is divided into three chapters:The first chapter introduces an overview of plague literature.By tracing the history of plague,we can understand the origin,evolution,and types of plague in China and the West,and we can see that plague and human civilization go hand in hand.The second chapter selects classical plague literature texts to analyze the specific representation of law in them.The real outbreak of plague in history makes writers’ legal descriptions both realistic and metaphorical.The implementation of various epidemic prevention laws and regulations did play a positive role in curbing the further spread of plague.With the advancement of civilization,countries gradually established modern public health systems,and epidemic prevention laws and regulations became more and more democratic and humanized.On the other hand,the law also has its weaknesses,which make it difficult to cover all aspects in a state of social disorder,and writers use this to suggest the need for a new legal system.The third chapter analyzes the role played by legal narratives in the plague literature.In terms of thematic significance,legal narratives promote the spirit of scientific rationality,enhance national state consciousness,and promote ethical awareness and reflection;in terms of aesthetic characteristics,they are an important method for creating typical legal characters and for literary realism. |
