Research On Xia Guangnan's Life And Deed

Xia Guangnan was an ordinary intellectual in the modernhistory of Yunnan.Through the collection and collation of Xia Guangnan archives and writings,and also referring to the existing research results,using the literature analysis method and historical research method to study deeds of Xia Guangnan’s life.The social environment of Huize County in the late Qing Dynasty had an important impact on Xia Guangnan’s early interest in learning and the establishment of his life goals.His life stories included several aspects:the first is his learning and teaching experience.No matter how the surrounding environment changes,Xia Guangnan’s firm desire to study had never changed.After finishing his studies,Xia Guangnan returned to his hometown and founded Huize Middle School to fill the historical gap of no middle school in Huize County.During his teaching in Kunhua Middle School,Xia Guangnan had empathy with students who participate in progressive movement and supported their patriotic actions.At the same time,in history teaching,Xia Guangnan ollowed the good guidance,taught well and cultivated outstanding talents represented by Li Yan.Second,with political experience,Xia Guangnan investigated the primary schools in Ami County and Jinning County,Binchuan Water Conservancy Project and Reclamation Bureau of Kaimeng.He put forward practical suggestions to conscientiously perform his duties to served local social development.Third,in his academic career,Xia Guangnan was not only had written extensively,but also entered the Southwest Research Office of Yunnan University to engage in academic research.He was responsible for compiling "New Compilation of General Annals of Yunnan" and "Long Compilation of General Annals of Yunnan " and other local chronicles,with outstanding achievements.Fourth,Xia Guangnan planned to visit the southern border of China and Myanmar to make investigations.With strong patriotic zeal,Xia Guangnan concerned about current affairs and the whole nation and country.Fifth,Xia Guangnan served as a librarian of Yunnan Provincial Library and a librarian of Yunnan Culture and History Research Institute after the establishmemt of New China.To make a long story short,compared with those historical figures who play an important role in promoting the process of historical development,Xia Guangnan’s life deeds are relatively ordinary.However,his spirit of courage to explore new knowledge and the quality of putting the interests of the nation first are worth learning and practicing for us.
