This report is based on the translation of Mapping the Transnational World: How We Move and Communicate across Borders and Why It Matters(Chapter 5 and Chapter 6).This book is centered on the study of the structure, growth, and future of transnational human travel and communication. The translation report aims to help people learn more about globalization in different principles such as statistics and sociology and to provide some references for translation of informative texts. This report focuses on translation techniques guided by Functional Equivalence to solve the translation difficulties encountered in the translation process, based on the translation practice of chapters 5 and 6 in Mapping the Transnational World. The translator addresses the translation difficulties and achieves functional equivalence between the source language and the targeted language under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence, using translation techniques such as omission, annotation, conversion of part of speech, conversion, literal translation and sentence reconstruction. While following the principle of fidelity to the original text, the translator analyzes the applicability of Functional Equivalence to informative texts through different cases with the targeted readers in mind.Mapping the Transnational World: How We Move and Communicate Across Borders and Why It Matters(Chapters 5-6)will assist the target readers better understand the concept of transnational mobility and evoke the same response as the source reader after translation.Certain translation experiences with social literature can be gained concurrently. The combination of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and several translation techniques can be effective for translating sociological material.
