The English-Chinese Translation Practice Report Of Supporting Mental Health And Wellbeing For Postgraduate Research Students From The Perspective Of Translation Shift Theory

The translation project is a research report published in October 2020 about the investigation,situation analysis,and suggestion of mental health and wellbeing for postgraduate students.The translation project can make domestic and foreign professionals fully know the current situation of postgraduates’ physical and mental problems,and cause the concern and reflection of relevant departments.Catford’s theory of translation shifts includes level shifts and category shifts.Level shifts refer to shifts of numbers,tense and aspects.Category shifts refer to class shifts,unit shifts,structural shifts,and intra-system shifts.Class shifts mean changes of word classes.Unit shifts mean rank shifts.Structural shifts include the shift of passive and active voice,prepositive and postpositive attributes and spiritual and inanimate subject.Intra-system shifts mean that the source language and the target language have roughly corresponding structures,and a non-corresponding term needs to be selected in the target language system in translation.The paper consists of five parts: project introduction,translation process,literature review,exemplification and conclusion.The translation process includes the preparation work,the whole translation process and the work done after translation.In the process of translation,the author believes that mastering the exact meaning of terms in translation is the first main task,and solving the problems caused by different ways of expression in Chinese and English is the second main task.Based on the theory of translation shifts,this paper further explores the significance of translation shifts in guiding practice and how to grasp the accuracy of translation in the research report of information text.Many of the suggestions pointed out in the translation materials are helpful to solve the psychological problems of postgraduates at home and abroad,and to provide healthy backbone talents for the society,so as to create a better academic atmosphere.
